US Companies Highlight Collaboration with Chinese Supply Chains at 2nd CISCE in Beijing
Significant Presence of US Firms at CISCE
The second edition of the China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE), ongoing in Beijing, is witnessing remarkable participation from American companies. Notable brands such as Apple and Tesla are showcasing their collaborations with Chinese suppliers, thereby underscoring the significance of China's role in their manufacturing processes.
The expo is organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), which reports that the number of US companies participating surpasses that of any other foreign nations. This trend signals a deepening relationship between American firms and their Chinese counterparts, reinforcing the competitive edge of Chinese supply chains.
Apple’s Showcase
At the Apple booth, visitors can find representatives from four of its Chinese suppliers: Goertek, YUTO, Crystal Optech, and LY iTECH. Each supplier has set up displays illustrating their automated manufacturing processes and green production capabilities. Products on display range from packaging and phone cases to batteries and optical components, all critical to Apple's extensive ecosystem.
According to an advertisement featured at Apple’s booth, over 80% of Apple's top 200 suppliers are based in China. Moreover, the tech giant has invested more than $20 billion in smart and sustainable manufacturing in China over the past five years, highlighting its commitment to the region.
Tesla’s Innovations
US electric vehicle leader Tesla has also made quite an impact at CISCE, showcasing a range of innovations including electric drives, batteries, and humanoid robots at its exhibit. Tesla reports that its Gigafactory in Shanghai boasts a localization rate of over 95% for its components, with more than 400 local suppliers contributing to its operations. This connection allows Tesla to produce a complete vehicle approximately every 30 seconds, illustrating the factory’s efficiency in meeting global demand—676,000 vehicles were delivered in just the first three quarters of 2024.
Tesla has not only benefited from China's robust supply chain but has also played a role in accelerating growth within the local industrial ecosystem, fostering mutual successes for both Tesla and its suppliers.
Starbucks' Commitment
Starbucks, the well-known US coffee chain, is also highlighting its collaboration with local agricultural producers, notably sourcing coffee from southwest China's Yunnan Province. Coffee beans from this region are used in every espresso served across 7,600 Starbucks locations in mainland China.
With a workforce of 60,000 and partnerships with thousands of local coffee farmers, Starbucks is focused on deepening its involvement in the coffee supply chain and enhancing sustainable practices, therefore creating shared value with its stakeholders in China.
HP's Technological Advancements
The personal computer manufacturer HP has also grabbed attention at the expo, presenting its innovative AI-powered products. Jason Juang, HP’s managing director for Greater China, remarked that the company has always operated with a commitment to
