Brevel Secures $25 Million to Enhance Microalgae Protein Innovations for the Future of Food

Brevel Expands Seed Round to $25 Million Through Warrant Exercise

Brevel, Ltd., an innovative player in the climate food-tech sector, has successfully expanded its seed round funding to a remarkable total of $25 million. This latest financial boost, exceeding $5 million through the strategic exercise of warrants, marks a significant milestone for the company as it doubles down on its commitment to develop sustainable microalgae proteins for diverse food and beverage applications.

Investment and Stakeholder Support

The recent round of funding was primarily fueled by existing investors, including notable names such as NevaTeam Partners, Siddhi Capital, and the European Union's EIC Fund. These investors have confidence in Brevel’s trajectory and future potential, as evidenced by their decision to increase their stakes in the company. The substantial investment will enable Brevel to enhance its market strategies and cultivate new growth opportunities in microalgae protein production.

Yonatan Golan, Co-Founder and CEO of Brevel, commented, "Our team is dedicated to providing nutritious protein alternatives that can effectively replace animal-based proteins in various formulations. Our vision is not only to supply healthy food options but also to significantly reduce our carbon footprint as we expand and innovate."

Milestone Achievements

Brevel's impressive achievements to date include the successful launch of its first commercial factory, pioneering a scale-up of its microalgae production technology, and securing essential agreements for joint development with key industry players like The Central Bottling Company (CBC Group). These accomplishments reaffirm Brevel’s position as a leader in the microalgae protein market, and the newly acquired funding will further propel their ongoing commercial efforts, facilitating partnerships and product offerings crucial for high-scale production.

Innovative Approach to Microalgae Cultivation

At the heart of Brevel’s innovation is their proprietary technology that utilizes a blend of light and sugar-based fermentation to cultivate microalgae. This advanced process elevates the traditional fermentation methods, typically confined to dark settings, thus achieving high yields of nutrient-dense microalgae at cost-effective rates. Their technology not only produces a versatile microalgae protein isolate powder but does so without any genetic modifications, ensuring quality and sustainability.

The resultant protein powder, which is characterized by its neutral taste, holds the potential to be seamlessly integrated into a wide array of meat and dairy alternatives, serving as an effective functional ingredient while boasting exceptional nutritional value.

Economic Viability and Future Goals

Brevel's business model mirrors that of soy protein, aiming to generate revenue not only from the protein itself but from various co-products derived from the microalgae. Golan elaborated, "By capitalizing on every part of the biomass, we can maintain competitive pricing while diversifying our revenue streams through proteins, functional oils, and antioxidants."

With the goal of achieving price parity with conventional protein sources, Brevel is poised to roll out additional products in the coming months that will complement its existing offerings, expanding its reach in the growing alternative proteins market.

Looking Ahead

Golan is set to present at the upcoming Investor Day on Climate event on April 2, where Brevel will showcase its strategy to combat climate change and address food security through innovative technologies. Brevel's commitment to meeting the demands of a growing global population while promoting eco-friendly and nutritious alternatives positions it as a frontrunner in the food-tech industry.

Founded by brothers Yonatan, Ido, and Matan Golan, Brevel emerged from the desire to meet both consumer needs and environmental challenges. With their innovative microalgae solutions, Brevel aims to reshape our food supply in a sustainable way while expanding its market presence and operational capabilities in the alternative proteins sector.
