Upcoming Skills Test at Heisei Kensetsu
Heisei Kensetsu, a unique construction company renowned for nurturing skilled artisans, is gearing up for a significant event on June 6, 2025. With more than 120 carpenters, including 41 certified first-class carpentry craftsmen and 18 certified second-class craftsmen, the company stands out in the construction industry. Notably, it also emphasizes obtaining qualifications in custom furniture production, with six craftsmen already certified as first-class furniture makers.
On this day, 28 junior carpenters, with experience ranging from two to five years, will gather at the Heisei Kensetsu processing plant in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. This skills test is not only an internal event but also open for public viewing and media coverage, offering spectators a rare opportunity to witness the dedication and skill of Japan's carpenters.
What to Expect on June 6th
The event will take place from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, where the participating carpenters will take on challenges designed to prepare them for the first-class furniture maker certification exam. This includes tasks that require precision woodworking skills, putting their tool handling and sharpness of knives to the test. It's a perfect setting for both practice and competition, encouraging collaboration and knowledge exchange among the young artisans, which boosts their motivation and enhances their skill set.
During the previous skills test, held in January, 35 carpenters showcased their prowess, creating a lively atmosphere filled with excitement and friendly competition. One can expect a similar vibe at this upcoming test, where participants will not only work on their individual tasks but also engage collectively, sharing techniques and solving problems as a team.
Heisei Kensetsu's Commitment to Excellence
The firm focuses on elevating craftsmanship through regular internal skills assessments, contributing to the increasing number of certified professionals each year. Their commitment to cultivating talent has led to numerous accolades, including awards at the Skills Grand Prix and top honors at the Sharpening Association’s competitions, showcasing their exceptional skills and dedication.
As Heisei Kensetsu continues to embody its philosophy of “refining skills, communicating through construction, and being a group of artisans”, the upcoming skills test is indicative of their ongoing efforts to maintain high standards in craftsmanship.
