Anna's journey began at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she graduated in 1962 with a degree in Sociology after just three years of intense study. Following her academic beginnings, she ventured to New York City in 1964 where she made her mark in the Welfare Department. Her position quickly evolved into a supervisory role, showcasing her leadership potential early on. During that same year, she was awarded a prestigious scholarship to Columbia University, from which she earned a Master of Science in Social Work in 1969.

Relocating to Los Angeles, Anna's career progressed within a Mental Health Clinic where she provided both individual and group therapy. Eventually, she settled in the San Francisco area, taking on a vital role as a Caseworker at a Family Service agency. Here, she skillfully led two support groups—one for adults and another for young mothers—an initiative that reflected her innovative approach to therapy. With licenses as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), Anna quickly established herself as a pioneer in the field of clinical social work.
