Angel Yeast Enhances Yeast Protein Production for Sustainable Food Solutions

Meeting the Global Demand for Alternative Proteins

In response to the escalating global call for alternative protein sources, Angel Yeast (stock code: SH600298), a prominent leader in yeast production, has reached a significant milestone by completing the final structural phase of its main production facility in Baiyang Yichang. This new industrial yeast protein production project is set to enhance the company's production capacity by an additional 11,000 tons per year, aligning perfectly with Angel Yeast’s commitment to sustainable protein solutions.

The urgency to develop innovative protein production techniques cannot be overstated. Traditional protein sources, which rely heavily on extensive agriculture and livestock farming, face challenges due to time consumption, limited resources, and sustainability concerns. Angel Yeast aims to address these challenges by introducing efficient production methods that can extract yeast proteins in a matter of hours, thereby significantly improving production efficiency compared to conventional practices.

The environmental benefits are substantial. Yeast protein cultivation notably reduces reliance on land and water resources while also minimizing greenhouse gas emissions. Specifically, the carbon emissions associated with yeast protein production equate to roughly 5% of those linked to animal protein production, making it a compelling alternative in the quest for sustainable food solutions.

Angel's innovative product line, known as AngeoPro, has expanded the utility of yeast proteins across the food industry, providing ingredients for protein bars, high-protein cereals, chips, baking products, and meat substitutes. With a protein content that exceeds 80% and a remarkable protein utilization rate of 96%, AngeoPro surpasses most plant-based proteins. Moreover, it includes all nine essential amino acids necessary for human health, representing 47% of its amino acid profile—significantly higher than traditional whey protein and many other plant proteins.

Zhang Yan, Deputy General Manager of Angel Yeast, underlined the nutritional advantages of their yeast proteins: "AngeoPro has redefined the concept of 'future protein', providing a high-quality protein source that is nutrition-focused and highly efficient."

The shift towards alternative proteins is not just a trend; it's a necessity. As highlighted by Bruce Friedrich, founder of the Good Food Institute at a recent Asia-Pacific agri-food innovation summit, the demand for meat in the region could account for 50% of global demand by 2050. He draws parallels between the current state of alternative proteins and the early perceptions of solar and electric vehicles, which were once deemed unviable but are now mainstream.

With the decreasing costs of yeast protein production, markets in Asia and globally are quickly adapting, embracing newer technologies and sustainability practices. Angel Yeast is taking a proactive role in this transformation, recently showcasing their AngeoPro products at the Food Ingredients Global Europe 2024 exhibition in Frankfurt, Germany. This initiative included collaboration with a renowned vegan protein bar brand in India, further expanding the applicability of this innovative ingredient.

Looking ahead, Angel Yeast is committed to increasing its investment in yeast protein research and development, enhancing production technologies, and broadening its innovation horizons. As Zhang Yan affirms, "Our goal is to contribute to a sustainable future for all, and we believe that advanced yeast protein solutions are a cornerstone of this vision."
