Boston Celtics & Sun Life Unite for the 12th Edition of Fit to Win Youth Health Initiative

Boston Celtics & Sun Life Celebrate Fit to Win

Recently, the Boston Celtics partnered with Sun Life U.S. to commemorate the 12th year of their Fit to Win program, aimed at inspiring youth to adopt fitness and healthy lifestyle habits. This year's event took place at the East Boston YMCA, culminating with an exciting competition where kids engaged in smoothie and cereal bar making alongside Celtics stars Hugo González, Derrick White, and Amari Williams.

Fit to Win, a program that has enriched countless young lives since its inception, is designed to motivate kids between the ages of 8 to 12 through a variety of activities that encourage physical fitness and nutritional literacy. Participants had the opportunity to track their fitness activities, which included workouts, journaling, hydration, and sleep habits - all pivotal for their overall well-being.

This year's celebration kicked off in February with a vibrant health fair at the East Boston YMCA. This fair offered a range of engaging activities such as creative writing sessions, selecting fresh produce to take home, vision screenings, and tastings of smoothies and vegan dishes. They even had sessions on dental hygiene with demos on flossing and brushing. It was a wonderful chance for attendees to learn valuable health lessons in a fun and interactive environment.

Adding to the excitement, Celtics alum Leon Powe led the children in workouts, promoting the spirit of fitness. The day also featured a refreshing dunk show by Lucky the Leprechaun, entertaining the crowd and further igniting enthusiasm for healthy living. Moreover, two lucky children were rewarded with tickets to an upcoming Celtics game, making the day even more memorable.

David Healy, the president of Sun Life U.S., voiced the organization's commitment to fostering healthier lifestyles among young people. He noted, "Since the beginning of this program over a decade ago, we have witnessed countless children embrace healthy living experiences. Our partnership with the Celtics has enabled us to impact the communities in Boston that need it most. It’s essential to instill healthy habits early on, as they set the foundation for a better future."

The collaboration between Sun Life and the Boston Celtics has a longstanding history of contributing positively to the community. They are not only committed to Fit to Win but also engage in other initiatives such as the annual #SunLifeDunk4Diabetes fundraiser, which supports the YMCA of Greater Boston's Healthy Habits program each November.

Ted Dalton, chief partnership officer of the Boston Celtics, expressed gratitude towards Sun Life and the YMCA. He remarked, “This partnership allows us to bring together kids with Celtics players in an environment that champions healthy, active lifestyles. Such initiatives are vital for instilling habits that can last a lifetime.”

The Fit to Win program has positively impacted over 2,600 children over its 12-year run, equipping them with essential knowledge and resources to lead healthier lives. Furthermore, the initiative has even extended its outreach to youth in Southern Maine through collaborations with the Boys and Girls Clubs.
