AdventHealth Enhances Care in Port Charlotte with ShorePoint Acquisition

On March 1, 2025, ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte transitioned into AdventHealth Port Charlotte, marking a significant development in healthcare within the region. Located in the sunny and vibrant Port Charlotte, Florida, the hospital has officially become part of AdventHealth, a prominent faith-based health system in the USA renowned for its holistic approach to patient care.

The strategic acquisition entails the comprehensive purchase of the 254-bed full-service hospital, alongside its various operations including outpatient services and physician clinics. This rebranding not only reflects a new identity but also promises an integrated and exceptional healthcare experience for the community.

Terry Shaw, the president and CEO of AdventHealth, expressed the excitement surrounding this transition, stating, "We are honored to bring AdventHealth's unique brand of whole-person care to Port Charlotte and are thankful to partner with the team members, physicians, patients, and residents of this community. We aim to deliver exceptional care for the body, mind, and spirit." This statement encapsulates AdventHealth’s commitment to ensuring that care is not solely focused on physical health, but also encompasses emotional and spiritual wellbeing.

The acquisition, confirmed through a finalized agreement with Community Health Systems, Inc. (NYSE CYH), closed effectively on March 1, 2025. It also includes the land associated with ShorePoint Health Punta Gorda and other related operations. Unfortunately, the Punta Gorda hospital had to be permanently closed due to damages sustained from hurricanes Helene and Milton.

Moving forward, AdventHealth aims to engage with the Punta Gorda community to better assess their healthcare needs and establish optimal care solutions. Such initiatives are indicative of AdventHealth's deep-rooted commitment to community health.

David Ottati, President/CEO for AdventHealth West Florida, welcomed the skilled teams at ShorePoint Health into the AdventHealth network. He emphasized the importance of addressing the needs of the Charlotte County and its residents, highlighting a shared goal of improving healthcare standards and delivering superior clinical outcomes.

Adam Johnson has been appointed as the new President/CEO of AdventHealth Port Charlotte, which also oversees the emergency room located in Cape Coral. Previously, Johnson served as the chief operating officer for AdventHealth Ocala, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership in expanding healthcare services. In his new role, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead such a dedicated team and reiterated his commitment to fostering a culture of excellence within the organization.

As part of their ongoing transition plan, AdventHealth is focused on ensuring uninterrupted service to patients while supporting its new healthcare team members. This transition phase is crucial for maintaining the high standards of care that patients expect.

AdventHealth operates a vast network that serves nearly nine million individuals annually. Their extensive reach encompasses over 2,000 care sites, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and home health agencies. This interconnected system is geared towards providing comprehensive, whole-person healthcare that aligns with their mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ.
