Collins Aerospace Expands Military Capabilities with $904 Million U.S. Navy Contract
On January 29, 2025, Collins Aerospace, a key division of RTX (NYSE: RTX), announced the awarding of a significant follow-on contract with the U.S. Navy. This contract could potentially reach up to $904 million over the next five years. The contract aims to bolster the development of the Cooperative Engagement Capability (CEC), an advanced system designed to unify and integrate information from multiple sensors across various platforms, including surface, land, and air. This integration is crucial for enabling joint fire control systems, which enhance the readiness and response capabilities of naval forces.
Since 1985, RTX has been the sole provider of CEC, showcasing its longstanding commitment to military defense initiatives. The new contract builds on an existing five-year Design Agent contract, reflecting the Navy's continued reliance on Collins Aerospace's expertise and innovation in defense technology. As part of the contract, Collins Aerospace will introduce new functionalities to the system. These enhancements will focus on increasing interoperability between platforms, expanding sensor coordination, and integrating new sources of data.
Ryan Bunge, Vice President and General Manager of C4I Autonomy Solutions at Collins Aerospace, emphasized the importance of the CEC in supporting the Navy's evolving Distributed Maritime Operations. "The Cooperative Engagement Capability is a key enabler that allows us to support advancements in integrated fire control systems across various services," Bunge stated. The technology behind CEC has been proven over time, adapting to the needs and challenges faced by military operations.
Collins Aerospace has a successful track record, having deployed and maintained the CEC across more than 174 platforms used by the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, and allied international forces. This extensive operational experience allows the company to precisely understand how to optimize CEC further to meet the future demands of warfare. The contract not only signifies a substantial financial opportunity but also grants Collins significant leverage to tailor engineering tasks based on the evolving CEC mission requirements.
Collins Aerospace is recognized as a leading entity in providing integrated and intelligent solutions specifically tailored for the global aerospace and defense sectors. With around 80,000 employees, the company is focused on delivering technologies that prioritize sustainability and advancements in aviation, passenger safety, and military missions.
