Sleep and Beauty: A Growing Concern Among Women
According to a recent survey conducted by Co-medical+, a comprehensive beauty brand based in Shinjuku, Tokyo, 50% of women aged 20 to 49 reported feeling that their sleep quantity and quality are insufficient. With 400 respondents, the survey sheds light on the correlation between sleep and beauty, underlining a significant concern for many.
Survey Overview
The survey divided participants into four groups based on their average sleep hours and assessed various aspects of their sleep quality and its relation to beauty:
- - Participants: Women aged 20-49
- - Sample Size: 400 individuals, with groups ranging from below 5 hours to over 7 hours of sleep
- - Survey Period: October 24 to 30, 2025
- - Method: Online survey
Findings: Sleep Quantity and Quality
The results indicate that only
31.3% of respondents felt their sleep was adequate, while a staggering
49.5% reported feeling their sleep was lacking. Among those who sleep less than five hours, this feeling of inadequacy rose to
78.0%. Furthermore, when asked about quality, only
23.3% felt their sleep was sufficient, leading to a troubling conclusion that a majority struggle with both the duration and quality of sleep.
Interestingly, even among the group that manages to sleep more than 7 hours,
32.0% reported dissatisfaction with their sleep quality, suggesting that it's a widespread issue.
Daytime Fatigue: A Common Experience
The survey also explored daytime fatigue, with
46.5% of participants rating their feelings of sleepiness and lethargy between 7-10 on a scale of 10. This degree of fatigue was especially pronounced in those who reported sleeping less than five hours, with
58.0% acknowledging significant daytime drowsiness.
The Connection Between Sleep and Beauty
A surprising finding was that
47.0% of women acknowledged feeling an improvement in their beauty—skin, hair, and overall appearance—when they managed to regulate their sleep patterns. However, among those who typically sleep over 7 hours, about
30% did not feel a significant link between sleep quality and beauty, indicating variability in personal experiences of this connection.
Enhanced Beauty Focus Among Moderate Sleepers
Interestingly, the group that sleeps between 6-7 hours showed the highest level of attention to their beauty routines, with almost
50% expressing commitment to beauty practices. In comparison, those sleeping less than 5 hours had a lower engagement level with only
40.0% reporting a focus on beauty.
In the last three months, the most targeted beauty areas included lips (
30.5%), scalp and hair (
29.0%), and body care (
22.0%). Notably,
26.5% of women reported no focus on any beauty routines, revealing a disparity even amongst enthusiastic participants.
Eyelash Concerns: A Significant Issue
Beyond general beauty routines, the survey highlights issues surrounding eyelashes, where
over 60% of participants expressed concerns about issues like thickness, sparse areas, and length. Alarmingly,
64.0% admitted they had not engaged in any eyelash care practices in the last three months, indicating a gap in addressing these specific concerns.
