Tsuruha Holdings, a leader in the drugstore industry in Japan, has officially launched its comprehensive use of SmartDB, a cloud service offered by Dream Arts. This strategic move aims to support the company’s digital transformation (DX) strategy and improve internal controls, especially in light of new lease accounting standards. The new system will significantly reduce administrative burdens and streamline data management across its uniquely extensive store network.
The Background of SmartDB Implementation
As of February 2025, Tsuruha Holdings operates an impressive 2,658 stores nationwide, including drugstores like Tsuruha Drug and Kusuri no Fukutaro. The company aims to transform into a high-profit structure by leveraging this vast network through effective digital strategies. However, challenges had arisen in managing store information, data sources, and compliance with updated leasing accounting standards. Disparate Excel spreadsheets were being used across multiple departments for managing over 200 types of store information, leading to inconsistent data and errors during simultaneous edits.
