Huawei and Moroccan Government's DigiSchool Project Transforms Education Access

In a significant stride towards digital education, Huawei has announced the successful completion of its DigiSchool 2024 project in Morocco. Launched in February 2024, this initiative highlights the importance of providing all students in the country with equitable access to digital technology, thereby underpinning Morocco's commitment to educational reform and modernization.

Project Overview

The DigiSchool project is an integral part of Morocco's educational reform plan for the period from 2022 to 2026, which aims to equip the nation's youth with the skills necessary for thriving in an interconnected world. This ambitious initiative is a collaborative effort between the Moroccan Ministry of Education, Preschool, and Sports and Huawei Morocco, under Huawei’s global TECH4ALL initiative focused on digital inclusion.

David Li, Managing Director of Huawei Morocco, emphasized the project’s significance, stating, "The DigiSchool project underlines the importance of enhancing digital skills and reinforcing public-private partnerships as a genuine driver for cultivating a resilient digital ecosystem." He further reiterated Huawei's commitment to continue investing in education and innovation, thus supporting Morocco's aspirations for high-quality and inclusive digital education.

Phases of DigiSchool 2024

The DigiSchool 2024 initiative unfolded in four comprehensive phases aimed at developing digital competencies among both students and teachers.

1. Training for Teachers: The first phase focused on training 265 secondary school teachers across all twelve regions of Morocco in ICT (Information and Communication Technology) skills. This foundational training was crucial for the educators to relay their knowledge to students.

2. Ongoing Support: In the second phase, the emphasis shifted to offering continued support for these trained educators. The methods and insights they acquired were subsequently applied in their classrooms, benefitting approximately 2,650 students.

3. Regional Hackathons: The third phase involved hosting twelve regional hackathons from May to November, fostering innovation and problem-solving among 714 participating students. The hackathons aimed to develop ICT solutions addressing specific local challenges, encouraging collaboration and practical application of learned skills.

4. Technology Bootcamps: The final phase, executed in December, consisted of technology bootcamps held in Fez, Marrakech, and Agadir. These sessions brought together 180 students and 60 teachers from across the regions, focusing on deepening their ICT knowledge acquired earlier. At these bootcamps, students received tailored guidance to refine their hackathon projects and present their solutions to a jury, with standout contributions awarded prizes.

Closing Event and Future Aspirations

The culmination of the DigiSchool 2024 program took place during an evaluation tour at the Agadir bootcamp, attended by notable figures including Mohamed Saad Berrada, the Minister of Education, and other regional education officials. During this event, students proudly showcased the innovative solutions they developed, highlighting their journey from learning to practical execution.

The success of the DigiSchool 2024 project not only signifies progress in the Moroccan government’s commitment to digitalize the education system but also positions Morocco as a regional model in leveraging technology for equity and advancement in education. Alongside this initiative, Huawei continues to implement similar DigiSchool projects in countries like Kenya, Senegal, South Africa, Chile, and China, aiming to connect remote schools to the internet and enhance digital skills among students and teachers.

Through its efforts, Huawei is not only transforming the educational landscape in Morocco but is steadfastly working towards a future of digital inclusivity, sustainability, and opportunity for all.
