North Carolina Community College System Initiates Presidential Search to Enhance Workforce Development

North Carolina Community College System's Presidential Search

As North Carolina continues to experience remarkable economic and demographic growth, the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) has officially initiated the search for its next president/CEO. This key leadership role is essential as the state aims to sustain its economic progress and build upon its reputation for workforce development.

The NCCCS serves approximately 1 in every 14 North Carolinians annually, acting as a crucial pathway for individuals seeking economic advancement and career progression. The next president will have the unique opportunity to align educational offerings across its 58 community colleges with the rapidly evolving demands of industries such as biotechnology, healthcare, advanced manufacturing, and technology.

State Board Chair Tom Looney emphasized the importance of this position, stating, "North Carolina needs a leader who understands that workforce development is economic development." He noted that the new president must be adept at moving swiftly in alignment with business needs and evolving educational programs to prepare students for tomorrow's job market effectively.

The community college system has long partnered with employers across the state to create talent pipelines essential for driving the state's fastest-growing sectors. The opportunity presented to the incoming president extends beyond North Carolina, as this role also carries the potential to influence national workforce development strategies.

To oversee this search, the NCCCS has established a Presidential Search Committee consisting of experienced leaders from various sectors, including business, finance, and public service. They will collaborate with the executive search firm Buffkin/Baker and will conduct monthly meetings that will be streamed on the NCCCS YouTube channel, providing public access to the process. While parts of the meetings may be closed to comply with state law, transparency remains a priority.

Applicants interested in this transformative position are encouraged to submit their resumes, cover letters, and questions to designated contacts within the committee. Furthermore, nominations and referrals are welcome, highlighting the NCCCS's commitment to inclusivity and broader community engagement in the search journey. The college system actively encourages applications from underrepresented groups, including minorities, women, veterans, and individuals with disabilities, ensuring diversity in leadership representation.
