D-EDGE Analyzes Hotel Distribution Trends in Asia Pacific for 2026

Analyzing Hotel Distribution Trends in Asia Pacific

On July 7, 2026, D-EDGE, a company specializing in hotel distribution and marketing solutions, unveiled its latest analysis, the "D-EDGE Asia Pacific Hotel Distribution Report 2026," focusing on the unique yet diverse hotel market in the Asia Pacific region. The report reveals significant trends that transcend national borders, emphasizing the importance of strategic management in hotel distribution amidst an evolving competitive landscape and changing traveler booking behaviors.

D-EDGE collected concrete booking data from a representative sample of hotels across the region through its technology platform from 2022 to 2025, supplemented by market trends from the first quarter of 2026. In addition to trend analysis, the report provides actionable recommendations for hotels to improve long-term profitability.

Aurélie Topor, Managing Director of D-EDGE APAC, stated, "The Asia Pacific region cannot be viewed as a singular market due to the significant differences in demand structures, booking behaviors, and distribution channel characteristics across countries and regions. Nevertheless, our analysis has uncovered common trends that emerge beyond these differences. Hotels that proactively manage their distribution strategies in a competitive environment are likely to respond flexibly to market changes and achieve sustainable growth."

Key Findings

A Gradual Growth in Booking Market

In 2025, the number of bookings maintained a growth rate of 2.9% year-on-year. Preliminary data for the first quarter of 2026 also indicated a 2.7% increase, suggesting that while the market retains its growth, it is transitioning to a more stable pace.

Evolving Competition Among Distribution Channels

Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) dominated bookings in 2025, accounting for 83.4% of total reservations. Within this category, Agoda increased its share from 16.4% in 2022 to 20.9% by 2025. Additionally, wholesaler bookings rose from 1.8% to 5.1%. This evolution emphasizes the necessity for hotels to strategically optimize their channel mix to stay competitive.

Importance of Booking Quality Alongside Quantity

The overall cancellation rate in 2025 stood at 13.4%, showing an improvement from 14.3% in 2024. However, disparities emerged based on channel, with direct bookings through official websites recording the lowest cancellation rate at 9.2%. This highlights the increasing importance of evaluating the "quality" of bookings—not just their quantity—as a key indicator of potential revenue.

AI's Impact on Hotel Search and Comparison Behaviors

The analysis did not find significant changes in channel shares due to the rise of AI; however, it revealed that AI is beginning to influence travelers' hotel search, comparison, and shortlist processes. Looking ahead, enhancing content quality, maintaining data integrity, and improving online visibility will be crucial for hotels in the AI era.
