A Journey Back to the Showa Era: Gunze's 100-Year Exhibition

Gunze's Showa 100-Year Exhibition: A Nostalgic Trip

In the heart of Kyoto's Ayabe City, Gunze Co., Ltd. proudly presents its upcoming special exhibition titled "Showa 100-Year Exhibition", opening on June 21. This exhibition commemorates what would have been the 100th anniversary of the Showa era, inviting visitors to explore the culture and daily life of this significant period in Japanese history.

The Showa era, which lasted approximately 62 years, was marked by pivotal events such as World War II and Japan's rapid economic growth. This exhibition seeks to revive the charm of the Showa period by showcasing actual nostalgic items used by Gunze during that time. Through various artifacts, visitors can take a walk down memory lane and gain insights into the historical context of the era.

What to Expect

The exhibition features a timeline format, allowing visitors to reflect on the history of Gunze and society at large from the first year of Showa through subsequent years. Visitors can expect to see original photographs, promotional materials, and items used in factories and employee dormitories, providing a tangible connection to the life and culture of the Showa era.

Additionally, an interactive corner will be set up where attendees can experience playful activities reminiscent of the Showa period. Traditional games such as spinning tops, handmade “menko” (a card game), ring toss, and other nostalgic toys will be available for guests to enjoy.

The exhibition does not merely serve as a showcase of items; it aims to deliver a heartfelt nostalgic experience. Visitors are encouraged to reminisce and engage with these artifacts, sparking a deeper appreciation for Japan's rich cultural history.

As Ayabe City stands as the birthplace of Gunze, it’s only fitting that this special exhibition takes place here, encapsulating the local spirit and historical significance of the company's journey through the Showa era.
