In the heart of Kyoto's Ayabe City, Gunze Co., Ltd. proudly presents its upcoming special exhibition titled "Showa 100-Year Exhibition", opening on June 21. This exhibition commemorates what would have been the 100th anniversary of the Showa era, inviting visitors to explore the culture and daily life of this significant period in Japanese history.

The Showa era, which lasted approximately 62 years, was marked by pivotal events such as World War II and Japan's rapid economic growth. This exhibition seeks to revive the charm of the Showa period by showcasing actual nostalgic items used by Gunze during that time. Through various artifacts, visitors can take a walk down memory lane and gain insights into the historical context of the era.

Exhibition Details

• - Duration: From June 21 (Saturday) to July 6 (Sunday), open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Please note that the museum will be closed on Tuesdays.
• - Location: Gunze Museum’s multi-purpose gathering space called “Tsu-doi-gura”, based at 1 Zenzocho, Ayabe City, Kyoto Prefecture. The exhibition space is a renovated silk storehouse built during the Taisho period, which opened in 1996.
• - Admission: Free of charge.

What to Expect

The exhibition features a timeline format, allowing visitors to reflect on the history of Gunze and society at large from the first year of Showa through subsequent years. Visitors can expect to see original photographs, promotional materials, and items used in factories and employee dormitories, providing a tangible connection to the life and culture of the Showa era.
