Vibrant Community Spirit Shines at Life Time Chicago Spring Half Marathon & 5K
This past weekend, Chicago’s picturesque lakefront became a bustling hub of energy and enthusiasm as
9,500 runners from
47 states and 35 countries converged for the sold-out
Life Time Chicago Spring Half Marathon and 5K. Now in its
17th year, the event has established itself as one of the premier spring running events in the Windy City.
The marathon showcased a variety of ages, with participants ranging from just
2 years old to 79 years. This year brought exciting updates, including the introduction of a new
5K distance, which replaced the former 10K option. This change was made to enhance accessibility for families and beginners eager to kick off their race season in a supportive environment.
The scenic course began on
Columbus Drive, winding along Chicago's stunning
Lakefront Trail, providing runners with breathtaking views of
Lake Michigan and the iconic Chicago skyline. Crossing the finish line, participants were greeted by lively festivities at the
Spring Market Festival, featuring live music, a hot brunch, a beer garden, a DIY flower planting station, and brand activations, making it a joyful and celebratory finish for all.
A highlight of this year's marathon was the launch of the
Life Time Chicago Spring Kids Run Final Mile, a fantastic initiative powered by the
Life Time Foundation in collaboration with
Chicago Public Schools. In its inaugural event, over
200 students completed the final mile of the half marathon, celebrating their accomplishments with medals and the culmination of a multi-week training program that focused on building confidence, goal-setting skills, and healthy habits for life. This program reflects a successful initiative similar to the
Life Time Foundation's Kids Run Miami, which has seen hundreds of students completing their own final miles over the years at that event.
Allison Humbert Wilkinson, Associate Marketing Director at Life Time, articulated the essence of the event: “The Life Time Chicago Spring Half Marathon and 5K illustrates what a race can become beyond mere miles and finishing times. The experience embraces the collective energy on the course, as well as the joy of young runners crossing the finish line in the Kids Run, cultivating connections that extend beyond race day.”
As the popularity of running continues to rise, the Life Time Chicago Spring Half Marathon and 5K exemplifies the growing demand for holistic experiences centered on health and wellness. Life Time enriches the local Chicago community through its
15 athletic clubs, equipping members with varied health and wellness programs, expert guidance, and community support to facilitate their journeys, whether preparing for this event or pursuing personal fitness goals. A new location in Northbrook is set to open in June, further expanding their commitment to promoting healthy living in the region.
This marathon also serves as the kickoff for the
Life Time Chicago Half Marathon Series, providing an exciting opportunity for runners to earn a commemorative third medal by registering for both the Spring Half and the upcoming
Life Time Chicago Half Marathon scheduled for
September 27. This event is part of a robust lineup of nearly 30 athletic events organized by Life Time, which includes the
Miami Marathon,
UNBOUND Gravel, and the
Leadville Race Series—all created to meet participants at various points in their endurance endeavors.
