Tama Art University Celebrates Its 90th Anniversary



As Tama Art University reaches the significant milestone of its 90th anniversary in 2025, it embarks on the commemorative project titled "TAMABI BEYOND", designed to connect its rich history with a promising future. Established in 1935 as the Tama Imperial Art School, this esteemed institution has nurtured countless artists, designers, and creators under the guiding principle of "freedom and willpower".

A New Chapter: TAMABI BEYOND


The main theme for this anniversary is the ongoing exploration of unknown possibilities within art and design. This project not only honors the legacy of the past 90 years but also envisions future transformations in art and design education. The goal is to cultivate the next generation of innovative thinkers, continuing the university’s tradition of progressive education and creativity.

Professor Tatsuhiro Sato from the Center for Liberal Arts will oversee the copywriting for the project, emphasizing the commitment to both honoring tradition and embracing change. He states, "While we celebrate the 90 years of Tama Art, we must also look beyond it."

Anniversary Highlights



1. Commemorative Exhibition

A commemorative exhibition will be held from September to December 2025, showcasing the past 90 years and exploring future artistic possibilities. Details will be available on the official anniversary website.

2. Anniversary Ceremony and Homecoming Day

On October 18, 2025, a special ceremony will be conducted at the Hachioji Campus to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the university and the 30th anniversary of the alumni association. This day will also serve as a homecoming event, inviting graduates and stakeholders back to reconnect.

3. New Campus Construction

To further enhance the educational and research environment, a new building is currently under construction at the Uenoharai campus. This facility aims to continue fostering creative talent and provide a modern learning atmosphere.

4. Fundraising Initiatives

In conjunction with the anniversary celebrations, the university is initiating fundraising activities to support the advancement of its academic and educational research initiatives. Contributions will play a vital role in ensuring continued quality in education and future growth.
