7-Eleven, Inc. Unveils Its 2024 Impact Report Focused on Sustainability and Community Engagement
7-Eleven, Inc. Releases 2024 Impact Report
7-Eleven, Inc. has recently published its 2024 Impact Report, showcasing its ongoing efforts in promoting community well-being, protecting the environment, and fostering responsible consumption. Based in Irving, Texas, 7-Eleven is a leading name in convenience retail, operating over 13,000 stores across the U.S. and Canada.
Commitment to Community
One of the core tenets of 7-Eleven's philosophy is a deep-seated commitment to giving back. Marissa Jarratt, the Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Sustainability Officer, emphasized, "We care deeply about the communities we serve – and where we live and work." The company actively engages in volunteer initiatives, charitable donations, and in-store fundraising campaigns to create a lasting positive impact.
Among the standout stories from this year's report is that of an eight-year-old named Nolan, who championed the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN). His creativity shone through when he designed a special edition Slurpee® Day drink cup for 7-Eleven locations nationwide, contributing to an impressive $17 million raised for 112 local children's hospitals through various fundraising efforts throughout 2024.
Environmental Efforts
7-Eleven is equally committed to safeguarding the planet. Setting an ambitious target to cut its carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by 50% by 2030 (compared to 2013 levels), the retailer is aligned with the Green Challenge 2050 initiatives established by Seven and i Holdings Co., Ltd. This multifaceted approach aims to significantly decrease the organization’s environmental footprint.
Innovative strategies include the adoption of a sophisticated Energy Management System (EMS) that the company’s Architecture, Engineering, and Design teams implement. This technology allows for optimized energy consumption across 7-Eleven locations, enhancing energy efficiency and supporting sustainability goals.
Focus on Responsible Products
7-Eleven also prioritizes offering more responsibly sourced products. The company is reimagining packaging solutions to minimize environmental impacts. For instance, enhancements to the packaging of its popular 7-Select™ Replenish® hydration beverages lead to significant environmental gains, projecting annual reductions of 104 metric tons of plastic waste. The optimization of bottle design ensures not only the preservation of product freshness but also improves logistics by allowing more cases to fit per pallet, ultimately reducing transport demand by nearly 25%.
Looking Ahead
Jarratt concluded, "By measuring and reporting on our progress, we can celebrate our achievements and identify opportunities for further improvement." She highlighted that the collective efforts of 7-Eleven’s franchise owners, customers, and business partners are crucial in striving toward a sustainable and socially responsible future. The Impact Report not only reinforces 7-Eleven’s dedication to community and environmental stewardship but also sets the stage for future developments in these areas.
