ChangAn Expands Global Footprint with Rayong Factory Launch and 28.59 Millionth Vehicle Assembly

ChangAn's Global Leap Forward

On May 16, 2025, ChangAn Automobile, a prominent player in carbon-neutral mobility technology, marked a historic milestone by launching production at its first New Energy Vehicle (NEV) facility in Rayong, Thailand. This facility not only symbolizes a shift from merely exporting products but represents a full-scale industrial globalization strategy. The assembly of the 28.59 millionth vehicle, a DEEPAL S05 featuring right-hand drive, ushers in a new era for the company and highlights its dedication to eco-friendly manufacturing practices. The event was graced by Thailand's Prime Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who expressed strong support for ChangAn's operations and the development of a comprehensive industrial ecosystem in the country.

The opening ceremony took place against the backdrop of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, underscoring the importance of this collaborative effort. The Rayong plant spans approximately 960,000 square meters and aims to produce 100,000 vehicles annually, with plans to double this capacity by 2027. By enhancing localization, promoting low-carbon development, and fostering long-term partnerships, ChangAn also intends to create 30,000 jobs and bolster local tax revenue.

This new manufacturing site strengthens ChangAn’s strategic underpinnings according to its Vast Ocean Plan, designed to establish a world-class smart production hub characterized by high quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The facility exemplifies how NEV manufacturing can integrate digitalization, intelligence, and sustainability, and it significantly contributes to ChangAn’s global expansion ambitions.

Notably, the Rayong plant is engineered with green and intelligent principles in mind, incorporating photovoltaic systems, rainwater recycling, air recirculation, virtual simulations, and digital controls to enhance energy efficiency. Emphasizing Thailand’s role as a logistic hub for Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, ChangAn embraces its motto, “In Thailand, for Thailand,” with ambitious targets to sell 5 million vehicles and 3 million Smart New Energy Vehicles (SNEVs) globally by 2030.

In the next three years, ChangAn plans to introduce 12 new energy products, expediting the integration of AI and assisted driving technologies. To address the specific market need for right-hand drive vehicles, a new spare parts warehouse in Rayong will cater to global demands, aiming for a 98% satisfaction rate and a rapid 24-hour delivery service. Concurrently, ChangAn will upgrade its digital service platform specific to Thailand, incorporating AI-driven capabilities for intelligent vehicle control, remote diagnostics, battery monitoring, and smart maintenance, all geared towards enhancing user experience.

Since launching its third entrepreneurial initiative in 2017, ChangAn has pursued aggressive global growth under its Green Plan, Intelligent Plan, and Vast Ocean Plan. The company has introduced three key brands—CHANG-AN, DEEPAL, and AVATR—aiming to emerge as a frontrunner in smart, low-carbon mobility. In 2024, ChangAn achieved a global sales record of 2.684 million vehicles, which is a 5.1% increase over the prior year. Sales of New Energy Vehicles surged to 735,000 units, reflecting a remarkable growth rate of 52.8%. Expansions into markets such as Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Germany have been fruitful, with over 14,000 units sold of popular models like the DEEPAL S07, E07, and AVATR 11 since their introduction in Thailand.

As ChangAn continues its steadfast commitment to long-term development and local operations, Chairman Zhu Huarong emphasizes the goal of establishing this factory as a benchmark within the industry. Focused on the future, ChangAn remains dedicated to becoming a leading intelligent technology enterprise for low-carbon mobility.
