Kikokushijo Academy and Salesian International School
Kikokushijo Academy (KA) has recently announced an exciting initiative aimed at enhancing English proficiency among elementary school students. Starting in the spring of 2026, KA will be launching an after-school English program at Salesian International School Elementary, providing a tailored experience for both returnee and bilingual students.
Integrating English Learning into School Life
This innovative program seeks to integrate English education directly within the school environment, capitalizing on the curriculum developed by KA through years of expertise in returnee and bilingual education. The after-school program offers two distinct pathways: an International Class where instruction primarily occurs in English and a Seibi Class that is geared toward students learning in Japanese. Both classes are designed to cultivate essential communication skills—thinking, reading, writing, and expression in English—through structured learning activities.
One of the standout features of this program is its convenient on-campus setting. KA instructors will conduct in-person lessons and provide supervised self-study assistance directly within the school, ensuring students have easy access to quality English education after school hours. This means that students can engage in meaningful English studies without the hassle of commuting to external tutoring facilities.
For parents, this setup significantly reduces the logistical challenges of arranging transportation to off-campus programs, allowing children to immerse themselves in English learning as a natural extension of their school day.
Tailored Programs for Different Learning Levels
The program includes two primary components:
1.
Early Years Program (Grade 1): This segment targets students in the International Class, focusing on developing foundational English skills through a balanced approach to reading, writing, and speaking. The goal is to nurture the ability to think and express oneself in English. Students will attend weekly lessons coupled with supervised after-school support from native-speaking instructors, which enriches their English learning experience and fosters consistent usage of the language in a welcoming environment.
2.
Rising Stars Program (Level 1): Aimed at Seibi Class students from grades 1 to 3, this program emphasizes phonics, vocabulary, reading, and writing. Students will gradually enhance their English communication skills through group lessons and personalized online sessions. Weekly one-on-one online instruction ensures that students receive continuous support tailored to their specific proficiency levels. Depending on their individual English skills and academic progress, students may also be provided opportunities to join alternative classes, ensuring they receive the most effective education possible.
Enhancing Learning with Online Resources
In addition to the in-person learning at school, the program will be supplemented by KA’s innovative online learning platform,
KA Connect, along with live classes available through
KA Plus!. This dual approach ensures students have ample opportunities to engage with English outside of the classroom setting, reinforcing their learning experiences at home as well.
Throughout its programs, Kikokushijo Academy focuses on creating a seamless connection between academic learning and everyday life, encouraging students to develop a habit of using English in their daily routines.
