MetLife Foundation's Community Impact Grant Program Boosts Japanese Nonprofits for Local Challenges

MetLife Foundation's Commitment to Local Communities

In a significant step towards addressing community issues in Japan, the MetLife Foundation, under the leadership of CEO Dirk Osting, has announced the selection of several Japanese non-profit organizations as beneficiaries of its Community Impact Grant Program (CIGP). This initiative reflects MetLife's longstanding commitment to empowering individuals and communities through access to essential resources that foster economic stability and resilience.

The Community Impact Grant Program is an international philanthropic initiative designed to support non-profits focusing on critical issues such as food security, mental health and well-being, environmental conservation, and vibrant community development. Launched in 2023, the program aims to expand globally by 2025, with a notable investment of more than $6.5 million provided to over 100 non-profits worldwide.

In Japan, a total of six organizations have been selected to receive grants amounting to $600,000, addressing the urgent needs of local communities. Tia Hodges, CEO of the MetLife Foundation and overseeing MetLife's social contributions and employee volunteer efforts, emphasized the foundation's role in enhancing the well-being of individuals and communities through these grants. She stated, "The MetLife Foundation is committed to supporting non-profits that elevate the well-being of individuals and communities through the CIGP. We work collaboratively to ensure that individuals and families can overcome challenges and advance towards a more resilient and stable state."

Moreover, Dirk Osting expressed pride in supporting initiatives that enhance community well-being and resilience in Japan. He underscored the importance of partnerships with local communities, stating that MetLife remains committed to walking alongside these communities, contributing to a society where individuals can move forward with greater confidence and security.

As part of the grant process, employees from MetLife Japan participated in the selection of the grant recipients, volunteering to review applications from non-profit organizations. Since the program's inception, the CIGP has awarded over $9 million to 207 non-profits, impacting approximately 1.6 million individuals across the United States, Asia, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East.

This initiative aligns with MetLife Foundation's broader efforts to promote inclusive economic mobility and financial well-being, emphasizing the importance of reinforcing resilience within the communities where MetLife operates. The foundation has historically collaborated with non-profit organizations and actively engages MetLife employees in volunteer activities, adhering to three core focus areas: economic empowerment, financial health, and sustainable communities. Over the past 50 years, the foundation has supported initiatives with more than $1 billion in funding.
