The Knowles Teacher Initiative Welcomes 2027 Fellowship Applications

The Knowles Teacher Initiative is thrilled to announce that it has opened its applications for the 2027 Knowles Teaching Fellowship. This four-year program is designed to provide extensive support to early-career high school teachers specializing in mathematics and science. The Fellowship aims to nurture both their teaching practice and leadership abilities, ultimately fostering a national network of dedicated educators committed to elevating the standards of education across the country.

Teaching is often a gratifying yet isolating profession—especially in the initial years of classroom management and instruction. The Knowles Fellowship addresses this challenge by uniting teachers through three interconnected communities: their cohort, a regional network, and a larger national community comprising over 600 educators. This collaborative framework nurtures ongoing mentorship and professional development, allowing teachers to continually enhance their skills while positively impacting their students' learning experiences.

Fellows participating in the program will receive a comprehensive support package that includes:

• - Annual stipends to assist with living costs;
• - Grants available for classroom materials, professional development opportunities, National Board Certification, and teacher-led initiatives;
• - Mentorship and coaching from seasoned educators to guide their growth;
• - Lifetime membership in the Knowles Community, promoting continuous collaboration and support even after their Fellowship period.

Jeff Rozelle, CEO of the Knowles Teacher Initiative, emphasized the pressing need to support early-career mathematics and science teachers, stating, "Our 2026 cohort was not only the largest but also the most geographically diverse in our history. We are excited to expand even further with the 2027 cohort."
He further explained, "By investing in the next generation of teacher leaders, we can dramatically enhance the quality of math and science education for students nationwide."

The application process is currently open, with three designated application windows available ahead of the final deadline on January 19, 2027. Knowles plans to select up to 40 new fellows from across the country. Applicants should demonstrate strong content knowledge in subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology, or mathematics, as well as a fervent commitment to high school education and the desire to foster leadership.

Current Fellow John Doorenbos, from the 2023 cohort, shared his experiences with the program, stating, "The Knowles Teaching Fellowship has empowered me to experiment with new teaching methodologies, bring innovative ideas back to my school, and seek out opportunities for leading professional development among my peers.
