GAC Group's Vision for Global Automotive Leadership
In a significant address during the Two Sessions 2026 in Beijing, Feng Xingya, a member of the National People's Congress and the chairman of the GAC Group, articulated a progressive vision for China's automotive industry. His call to action for establishing global standards aims at enhancing the international competitiveness of Chinese manufacturers and transforming the industry into a global leader.
Feng highlighted the challenges faced by the Chinese automotive sector, particularly in the realm of varying global standards and the need for harmonization with international regulations. He proposed the creation of a compliance service system, which would help align Chinese standards with global expectations and improve coordination among domestic enterprises. This strategic shift aims to convert technological advantages into competitive export capabilities, facilitating China's rise from a prominent exporter to a dominantly influential global player.
The Growing Global Reach of GAC
Currently, the GAC Group operates in 86 countries and regions across five major markets: Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, Europe, the CIS, and Central and South America. The company's global sales network has expanded significantly, now encompassing around 650 distribution channels and includes five assembly plants located in Nigeria, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Austria.
The results of GAC's expansion are promising, as evidenced by the remarkable 69% increase in overseas sales in January 2026 compared to the previous year. Moreover, February saw a monthly figure of over 11,125 vehicles sold abroad, marking a doubling (114% increase) in exports year-over-year. The total vehicles sold in the first two months of this year reached 25,126, reflecting an impressive growth rate of 86% compared to the same period last year. These figures highlight not only the resilience of the brand but also the growing demand for GAC vehicles on the international market.
Future Directions and Sustainable Practices
Looking ahead, GAC Group plans to accelerate the coordinated global expansion of its value chain, ecosystem, digital transformation, and financial systems. Feng remarked that the company's ongoing commitment to constant innovation in product development and operational strategies will support the initiative titled "Going Global, Going Deeper, and Going Upward." This initiative aims to escalate China's stature as an automotive powerhouse.
Feng also underscored the importance of focusing on electrification, intelligentization, and improving the benefit to society. He advocates for standardized battery exchange systems and enhanced regulations governing autonomous vehicles. Furthermore, for low-altitude economic activities, he proposed development plans and cross-border data regulations tailored for pilot projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
In terms of societal benefits, Feng envisions an ecosystem powered by new energy in rural areas and promotes mobility solutions suited for the elderly. He advocates for a hybrid model combining digital engagement with manual oversight, enhancing overall accessibility.
As GAC proceeds with its plans, Feng affirmatively states that the company will drive industrial modernization through technological innovation. It aims not only to elevate China to a formidable automotive power but also to enhance the quality of life for citizens, aligning with national strategies while delivering superior mobility experiences and environmentally friendly travel options to global consumers.
