Innovative Remote Construction Demonstration by Soliton Systems in Ukraine

In October 2025, Soliton Systems Inc. conducted a groundbreaking demonstration of remote construction technology in Kyiv, Ukraine as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's initiative, known as JUPITeR (Japan-Ukraine Platform on Infrastructure Technology for Recovery and Reconstruction). This demonstration not only highlighted the company's capabilities but also addressed the urgent need for rebuilding in Ukraine following recent conflicts.

The successful demonstration was built upon a thorough site survey conducted in July. Collaborating with the Ukrainian Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories and the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI), Soliton Systems leveraged multiple local LTE connections to ensure stable video transmission and real-time control signals. The control center, located within KPI's premises, managed construction machinery that was positioned approximately 25 kilometers away in a demo site within the city.

Equipped with Soliton's low-latency video transmission system, the "Zao" series, alongside actuator robots mounted on the construction equipment, the manipulation of machinery became feasible without the need for any retrofitting.

Furthermore, local operators were entrusted with the controls, quickly mastering the remote operation within just a few hours of training. The overwhelming response from participants, including women, showcased the practical applications of remote technology in construction, which were met with enthusiastic reactions as they successfully operated the equipment from a distance.

This demonstration confirmed the feasibility of implementing remote construction techniques in Ukraine, underscoring the potential for future use in rebuilding efforts. Soliton Systems aims to bridge Japanese construction and communication technologies with local needs, supporting efficient and safe reconstruction processes.

Demonstration Overview

  • - Timing: October 2025
  • - Location: Kyiv, Ukraine (KPI Control Center and demo site within the city)
  • - Equipment: Low-latency video transmission system "Zao," actuator robots for machinery
  • - Communication Structure: Simultaneous use of multiple local LTE carrier lines (Multi-link configuration)
  • - Demonstration Objective: Real-time remote control of construction machinery located approximately 25 km away from the KPI Control Center.

Background

With an immense demand for reconstruction in Ukraine, challenges such as labor shortages and hazardous working conditions have emerged. By introducing remote control technology, individuals, including women and war veterans, can potentially engage in reconstruction activities from safe locations. This initiative represents a significant first step towards realizing a "safe and inclusive recovery".

Observations from the Demo Site
