On April 29, 2026, the engaging environmental event, eSports GOMI, took place in Hirakawa City, Aomori prefecture, organized by the general incorporated association LIDEAL Aomori. This event attracted 34 teams and a total of 101 participants who were enthusiastic about competing in a unique blend of sports and environmental advocacy.
eSports GOMI is designed to raise awareness about marine litter issues worldwide by merging the competitive nature of eSports with community cleanup efforts. Teams of three scoured the area within a limited time, collecting rubbish and earning points based on the weight and type of waste gathered. The third edition of the event was held at the Takashin Cultural Center in Hirakawa City, thanks to the generous support of Takashin Co., Ltd. The event culminated in a thrilling contest where Team Hirakawa Jr.C emerged victorious, collecting an impressive 12.06 kg of waste and securing a total of 1,723 points. They won by a landslide, outscoring the second-place team, Team Moriyama, by 861 points! The complete waste collection amounted to approximately 62.9 kg, showcasing the collective effort of all participants in addressing environmental challenges.

The victorious team, made up of a mix of adult and child players, recounted their experience joyfully. They noted that while they initially underestimated the litter situation near a commercial facility, they were shocked to discover a significant amount of debris, particularly plastic bottles and cans. Participating in this event allowed them to enjoy sport while making a difference in the community, which left lasting smiles on the children's faces.
