Exciting New English Learning School Opening in Waseda with Free Trial Events!

New Beginnings in English Education

In September 2025, a new English learning school, ActiMethod Waseda, will be opening its doors. Developed by i GO Inc., ActiMethod combines typing with traditional English learning in an engaging way. As of April 2025, the program has already reached over 90 schools across the nation, representing a significant expansion of English language education for children.

To celebrate the launch, the Waseda school will host free trial events that will give prospective students a taste of this innovative approach. The details for the trial sessions are outlined below.

A Shift in English Education

In Japan, the incorporation of English as a core subject in elementary schools has been in effect for over three years, and it has since become a standard nationwide. Starting from the 2020 academic year for elementary schools and 2021 for junior high schools, the English learning curriculum underwent substantial revisions. Currently, fifth and sixth graders have two weekly English lessons, totaling 70 hours of instruction dedicated to developing four key skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

This revised curriculum now emphasizes a balanced enhancement of these skills, closely aligning with junior high school English goals. Consequently, the expectations for elementary students have steadily increased, and foreign language activities now commence as early as the third and fourth grade.

In addition, the number of English words that junior high students are expected to learn increased from 1200 to approximately 1600-1800. The curriculum aims for all classes to be conducted in English to further immerse students in the language, which presents a challenge for young learners amidst the larger educational shifts that encompass not only English but also subjects like programming.

The 2024 academic year will begin with university entrance exams based on this new curriculum, adding further urgency for students to enhance their English language skills early on.

Why Choose ActiMethod?

ActiMethod's teaching method focuses on rapid vocabulary acquisition through typing. Unlike conventional writing exercises, all writing activities in this program are conducted on a keyboard. This approach allows students to learn how to pronounce words correctly while typing them out based on auditory prompts, reinforcing their spelling and pronunciation simultaneously. As students get accustomed to typing in English, they often find that they can type five to ten times faster than when writing by hand.
