The
Ueno Toshogu Shrine, located in Tokyo's Ueno Park, is set to host its 47th annual
Spring Peony Festival from
April 4 to May 6, 2026. This prestigious event commemorates the shrine's dedication to Tokugawa Ieyasu, Tokugawa Yoshimune, and Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the revered figures of Edo-period Japan. Over the years, this festival has attracted a large number of visitors, with more than
30,000 attendees recorded last year alone.
During the Spring Peony Festival, you will be able to admire over
500 peony specimens from
110 different varieties, cultivated in regions such as Japan, China, America, and France. The festival showcases not only the traditional hues of peonies, including vibrant reds and pinks, but also rare yellow varieties that are sure to delight floral enthusiasts.
Visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking sight of the peonies as they bloom, each day bringing new beauty to the garden. - - Admission Fee: Adults (middle school students and above) 1,000 yen; groups (15 or more) 800 yen; special pass for the festival duration 2,500 yen; free admission for elementary school children and younger.

About Ueno Toshogu Peony Garden
Established in
April 1980, the Ueno Toshogu Peony Garden was created to commemorate friendship between Japan and China. Located within the grounds of the Ueno Toshogu Shrine, this Japanese-style strolling garden features more than
500 peonies during the spring and
160 in winter. Additionally, in autumn, around
