KDDI and Kyoto Sanga Connect Fans via 4K Remote Experience
On October 26, KDDI Corporation and Kyoto Sanga FC held a groundbreaking remote event that bridged the gap between Tokyo and Kyoto using advanced 4K imaging technology. This initiative aimed to connect fans and supporters with their favorite players and provide an immersive experience that felt as though they were physically present together, despite being in separate cities.
KDDI, headquartered in Tokyo, collaborated with Kyoto Sanga, based in Kyoto, to implement their innovative “Spatial Flexible Workplace Service.” This service allowed participants to interact in real time with players, breaking geographical barriers and enabling supporters from various locations to cheer for Kyoto Sanga together.
During the event, players Mizuki Saito and Joao Pedro were stationed at Sanga Town Joyo in Kyoto, while around 50 fans participated from the Takanawa TSUNAGU BASE in Tokyo. High-definition 4K video streamed the players directly to the fans, creating an exhilarating and personal connection. Attendees enjoyed the sensation of having their idols virtually right in front of them, enhancing their overall engagement and enjoyment.
The event featured fun activities, including a “Welcome High-Five,” “Meet & Greet,” and even a rock-paper-scissors contest. Participants could spend approximately 90 seconds with their favorite players, asking questions, taking photos, and engaging in conversations that included personal advice. This unique setup allowed fans to experience something that would be impossible in traditional fan gatherings, fostering a sense of closeness and camaraderie between players and supporters.
Throughout the event, joy and laughter filled the air. Feedback from fans showcased their delight at being included despite geographical limitations. One fan mentioned, “As someone living outside Kyoto, I’m thrilled to receive the benefits of being a fan club member!” Another shared, “I felt closer to the players compared to a real-life fan appreciation event!” From the players’ perspective, they also noted the seamless experience provided by KDDI's service compared to other video conferencing platforms, highlighting the ease of enjoying such events without stress.
In response to this successful initiative, KDDI expressed its commitment to continue fostering new and exciting ways for fans to connect with their sports heroes. This event marks just the beginning of many collaborative efforts that utilize cutting-edge technology to create memorable experiences for fans across different regions.
KDDI aims to realize a society where everyone can connect their aspirations using their technological prowess, including services like the Spatial Flexible Workplace Service, a joint offering with East Japan Railway Company. These modern developments open the door to a wide range of interactive and participatory activities, enhancing the spirit of community and support for beloved teams like Kyoto Sanga.
Such innovative events not only strengthen the bond between a club and its fans but also revolutionize how sports communities can engage and celebrate their collective passion in the digital age.
