Shanghai Electric Launches China's First Heterogeneous Humanoid Robot Training Facility

Shanghai Electric has made significant strides in the field of robotics by officially launching the first training facility for heterogeneous humanoid robots in China. This facility, located in Shanghai, represents a strategic partnership with nine leading research institutions aimed at revolutionizing the deployment of humanoid robots across various industrial applications. The primary goal is to train up to 1,000 humanoid robots by 2027, enhancing their operational efficacy in multiple sectors.

The training center currently accommodates over 100 humanoid robots, positioning it among the largest of its kind nationally. As part of its expansion plans, Shanghai Electric is focused on increasing this capacity to facilitate the concurrent training of 1,000 versatile robotic units. This ambitious initiative promises to accelerate the integration of humanoid robots in industries such as equipment manufacturing, automotive production, and home appliance sectors.

The operational framework for the training facility is built around an advanced operating system, Kylin, which enables sophisticated control mechanisms and data collection capabilities. During the opening event, representatives from Shanghai Electric ceremony signed a cooperation agreement focused on synergizing industrial research and commercialization of humanoid robots.

The initiative intends to incorporate training programs covering over ten different industries, where humanoid robots will gather extensive data on real-world industrial scenarios. This approach not only aims to refine the accuracy of future robotic models but also enhances their widespread adoption and integration into the fabric of modern industries.

Since March 2024, the Shanghai Electric Research Institute has engaged in close collaboration with the national local center to explore real-world applications for humanoid robots in high-risk operational environments, notably within the nuclear power sector. This initiative aspires to progressively replace traditional, labor-intensive, and repetitive tasks, thereby improving both efficiency and safety in nuclear power production. It presents a new drive towards smart transformation within this critical industry.

After extensive research and collaborative experimentation, the first humanoid robot was successfully deployed for routine tasks in the nuclear sector on December 1, 2024. This robot features unique design elements optimized for strength configuration and control, showcasing advanced performance in tasks such as inspection and loading/unloading operations in industrial settings.

Following the successful deployment, Shanghai Electric's technical team is committed to continuing its close partnership with the national local center. Leveraging their expertise in manufacturing and nuclear technology, both parties will strive towards further integration of humanoid robots into nuclear industry applications. Ultimately, this collaboration aims to enhance efficiency, safety, and technological excellence within the sector.

As Shanghai Electric forges ahead, it remains dedicated to pushing the boundaries of innovation and facilitating industrial advancement. Such initiatives ensure that humanoid robotics play a transformational role in shaping the future of smart manufacturing.

This progressive leap not only defines a new chapter in China's robotics narrative but also sets a global standard for the training and application of humanoid robots, potentially transforming operational paradigms across industries into the future.
