After months of dedicated efforts in fundraising, the Aluffi family has received a specially adapted mobility vehicle thanks to the overwhelming support of their neighbors, local organizations, and gracious contributions from many individuals.

At the center of this initiative is 12-year-old Joaquin Aluffi, who lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. This condition imposes daily challenges for Joaquin and his family, particularly regarding mobility. Routine tasks, like attending appointments or simple outings, often demanded significant effort and planning due to the limitations of their previous transportation.

Jeff Hodge, owner of Santa Cruz Toyota, expressed the joy of being a part of this remarkable journey, saying, "We are extremely honored to partner with the generous members of the Santa Cruz community to make this accessibility van possible for Joaquin and the Aluffi family. While no gift can overcome all challenges, we hope this van helps open doors to experiences that truly matter in life."

The community rallied behind the Aluffi family over the last year, exceeding expectations by raising more than $57,000 through various events aimed at supporting the family. Additionally, Santa Cruz Toyota stepped up, contributing a substantial $40,000 to complete the funding for an adaptive vehicle, valued at $97,000 and equipped with a mobility lift system.

This innovative van promises to alleviate many daily hurdles, allowing safer, more comfortable transfers, which enhances the family’s independence. Joaquin's mother, Sara, shared her relief as she reflected on their previous struggles, "I don't think I realized how poorly my systems were regarding transporting my son." The challenge often left both mother and son in pain, subjected to the physical strain of lifting Joaquin in and out of traditional vehicles.

"I want you to know that this act of kindness and generosity has changed our lives!" Sara stated. Her story resonates with many, illustrating the profound impact of community support.
