New Partnership Between CSU Global and School Board Partners Empowering Lifelong Learners

Empowering the Future of Education: CSU Global and School Board Partners Collaborate

In an inspiring move to bolster the education system, Colorado State University Global (CSU Global) has teamed up with School Board Partners (SBP) to launch an innovative program aimed at developing leadership among school board members. This partnership has launched its first cohort, consisting of 20 K-12 school board members who have completed the Empowered School Board Governance Program. Each member has earned a School Board Governance Certificate along with three graduate-level credits that can be transferred into various programs at CSU Global.

With a focus on affordability and accessibility, this partnership epitomizes the commitment both organizations have made toward supporting continuous learning and cultivating skilled educational leaders across the nation. The graduation from this program opens doors for school board members to pursue further higher education opportunities at CSU Global, including programs in Organizational Leadership, Principal Licensure, and Master's in Teaching and Learning. This aligns perfectly with CSU Global's mission to create pathways that facilitate access to post-secondary education.

Dr. Audra Spicer, CSU Global's Provost and Chief Academic Officer, noted the significance of this collaborative venture, emphasizing that the master's credits awarded provide a solid stepping stone toward proficiency in areas such as organizational leadership and strategic innovation. Furthermore, Dr. Becky Takeda-Tinker, the president of CSU Global, highlighted that education takes place not just within traditional classrooms but also through innovative programs that recognize the various experiences and skills that professionals acquire in their careers.

Ethan Ashley, CEO of SBP, reflected on the initiative's importance, pointing out that school board members greatly influence the trajectory of students' futures yet often lack the necessary training to perform their roles effectively. The Empowered School Board Governance Program not only equips participants with essential skills but also fosters a supportive community that encourages continuous growth and collaboration.

The program meticulously prepares participants for impactful leadership in educational governance. It delves into subjects such as the history, structure, and challenges faced by school boards, as well as strategies to combat systemic inequalities that plague public education. Although tailored for school board members, the program offers invaluable insights to educators, district leaders, nonprofit professionals, parents, and community advocates alike.

Baltimore City Public Schools Board Member Ashley Esposito shared her experience, stating, “The Empowered School Board Governance Program was an excellent opportunity to apply my knowledge in a structured and meaningful manner. Obtaining this certification validates my capability to implement effective governance in my school board.” She underscored the value of having a certification that reinforces her commitment to ongoing advocacy and leadership in her district.

Members who participate in this program gain access to CSU Global’s well-respected career-focused offerings and round-the-clock support services, including technical assistance, library resources, writing assistance, and tutoring. The versatility of CSU Global's offerings allows students to engage in various online bachelor’s and master’s degree programs across high-demand sectors, all while enjoying the convenience of a fully online and flexible learning environment.

Through this initiative, it is evident that CSU Global and SBP are not only committed to education but are also pioneers in driving meaningful change within communities. By investing in the leadership of school board members, they are essentially nurturing the future of education in America.
