Elizabeth Mannshardt Takes a Key Role at Westat
In November 2024, Elizabeth Mannshardt, a seasoned professional in statistics and data science, joined Westat as Vice President and Director of Statistics and Data Science. This significant appointment is expected to fortify Westat's capabilities in offering innovative, data-driven solutions to its clients.
Mannshardt comes with extensive experience and a wealth of knowledge in statistical methodologies. Notably, she previously directed the Statistics, Methods, and Innovation Program at the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics under the National Science Foundation. During her tenure, she led a team of survey statisticians and methodologists, contributing to significant advancements in statistical practices.
Prior to her role at the National Science Foundation, she was the acting director of the Information Access and Analysis Services Division at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). There, Mannshardt oversaw a talented team of data scientists and information technologists, managing national and public-facing programs and services. One of her key achievements included the design and implementation of the agency’s cloud-hosted data management and analytics platform.
In addition to her leadership roles, Mannshardt has strong ties to the broader statistical community, having served in multiple leadership positions within the American Statistical Association (ASA). Her contributions to the ASA are recognized by her status as an ASA Fellow, showcasing her commitment to excellence in the field.

Mannshardt is also an adjunct associate professor at North Carolina State University in the Department of Statistics, where she contributes to the education and development of future statisticians. Additionally, she serves as vice chair of ASA's Membership Council, overseeing and guiding the activities of nine ASA committees.
