Denver Health serves a remarkable one-quarter of Denver's annual population, primarily catering to individuals who are uninsured, underinsured, or have restricted access to healthcare. Statistically, it has been reported that every hour spent with a patient necessitates about two hours dedicated to administrative tasks, which often extends beyond the regular working hours, aggravating clinician burnout.

Recognizing this reality, Denver Health has taken proactive measures to streamline its operations to optimize patient care and support its diverse workforce. The deployment of Nabla’s advanced ambient AI technology marks a pivotal enhancement in attaining these goals, with tangible benefits already seen during an eight-week pilot program that involved 50 clinicians across twelve medical specialties. This extensive roll-out included areas such as family medicine, behavioral health, neurology, rheumatology, and infectious diseases, leading to over 6,000 patient visits during the trial phase.

One of the most notable outcomes from this pilot was a staggering 40% decrease in time spent on note-typing during patient appointments. Clinicians also reported a reduction in "Pajama Time"—the hours worked beyond regular shifts—by 13%, along with 82% of pilot participants feeling significantly less pressured during patient visits. Moreover, patient satisfaction metrics soared, with scores increasing by fifteen points, credited to enhanced communication between patients and their doctors, a direct result of the AI’s involvement.

Dr. Daniel Kortsch, Associate Chief Medical Information Officer AI, highlighted the positive shifts in workplace dynamics, stating that healthcare providers quickly noted improvements in their face-to-face interactions and work-life balance. He described the overwhelming gratitude expressed by doctors who felt a renewed sense of efficiency and satisfaction in their roles thanks to Nabla. Nabla’s AI system has the distinct advantage of seamlessly integrating with Epic, Denver Health’s electronic health record (EHR) platform. This integration has allowed clinicians to save time, as they found themselves spending 40% less time on writing Epic notes due to the AI, which enhances the accuracy of the documentation.

Material benefit can also be seen in Nabla’s multilingual capabilities, allowing compatriots profiting from Spanish, French, and Russian versions of its system to effectively facilitate better communication with non-native English-speaking patients. Additionally, after each encounter, Nabla generates clinical notes almost instantaneously, complete with custom instructions tailored to patients and caregivers in their preferred language. This approach has not only fostered patient engagement but also advanced treatment compliance, thereby fostering overall health outcomes.

They will also work on tailoring clinical note templates better suited to address the unique needs of transgender patients effectively.
