IPG Automotive Integrates Hardware Portfolio Into New Xpack Line for Enhanced HIL Applications

IPG Automotive Unveils New Xpack Line

On October 21, 2025, IPG Automotive, located in Karlsruhe, Germany, announced the launch of its new product line called Xpack, which consolidates the company's entire hardware portfolio. This new initiative aims to provide customers with a clear framework, seamless integration, and a sustainable foundation for a wide range of Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) applications.

Overview of the Xpack Product Line

The Xpack line functions as a common platform for various high-performance hardware modules and components. It combines proven quality with innovative technology, enabling efficient and rapid testing, as well as accurate verification of complex vehicle systems within the HIL domain.

As part of this new lineup, IPG Automotive has released the Xpack Real-time System (Xpack RTS), a modular real-time simulation platform ideal for HIL applications across all major development domains. With a flexible architecture that integrates multiple CPU cores and a newly developed backplane based on CompactPCI Serial, the platform allows for efficient testing of intricate vehicle systems when paired with CarMaker.

Enhanced Real-time PC: A Complement to Xpack

In addition to the Xpack RTS, IPG also introduced the Enhanced Real-time PC (Enhanced RTPC), an innovative platform built on the latest server technology. It boasts 12 CPU cores and effective parallel processing capabilities, providing outstanding performance for complex model computations. The Enhanced RTPC connects directly to the Xpack RTS through an adapter bridge, delivering maximum computing power and accurate IO interfaces. This system ensures high data bandwidth, supports PCIe-based modular systems, is compatible with commonly used communication standards such as automotive Ethernet, and features integrated security functions like MACsec, laying a future-proof foundation for the development of Software Defined Vehicles (SDV).

Florian Weindel, Hardware Product Manager at IPG Automotive, emphasized the advantages of the Xpack line, stating, “With Xpack, we provide our customers a fast platform that seamlessly integrates both existing and new hardware solutions. The improvements of the Xpack RTS and the introduction of the Enhanced RTPC combine the benefits of accurate IO interfaces and high computing capabilities, enabling efficient and reliable HIL testing.”

Additional Innovations in the Xpack Line

Beyond the Xpack RTS and Enhanced RTPC, the Xpack product line includes several proven hardware solutions from IPG Automotive, such as SensCompute for fast computation of various sensor signals, the Fail Safe Tester for simulating electrical faults, and dedicated HIL racks. This modular and scalable product line is designed to flexibly adapt to individual requirements, thereby providing a robust foundation for testing and simulation in all significant areas of automotive development.
