Mercury Insurance and LA Kings Honor Everyday Heroes Making a Difference

Celebrating Everyday Heroes: Mercury Insurance and LA Kings Honor Impactful Individuals

This past season, Mercury Insurance and the Los Angeles Kings joined forces to shine a light on everyday heroes whose contributions significantly enrich the community. The initiative, aptly named the Mercury Insurance Hockeywood Wall of Fame, has begun recognizing these unsung champions who work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to improve lives in Los Angeles.

The classic phrase "Not all heroes wear capes" resonated strongly throughout the event, reflecting the true essence of these honorees. Erik Thompson, the Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Mercury Insurance, emphasized the importance of recognizing individuals who give back selflessly. He stated, "Every community is home to heroes who don't get the recognition they deserve. They are what make our communities great, and we wanted to say thank you for everything they do to help make Los Angeles a better place to live."

During the final game of the Kings’ regular season, 13 remarkable individuals were inducted into the Hockeywood Wall of Fame. This first year’s selection spanned a range of contributions, from environmental activism to educational advancements. Among the inductees was Ryan Hickman, a proactive teenager who has managed to recycle over 105 tons of trash from local beaches. His commitment underscores the great influence one person can have on ecological sustainability.

Another standout was Khloe Thompson, a young philanthropist known for her dedication to providing support for the homeless community through her initiative, Khloe Kares. Similarly, Kathey Haas has earned her stripes as a volunteer at spcaLA, having fostered nearly 600 cats over her years of service.

In a further testament to diverse community involvement, other honorees included educators like Lisa Monie-Peralta, who has transformed Griffith Middle School by implementing a STEAM curriculum, creating an inclusive environment for all students. Each inductee showcased a unique story of courage, compassion, and commitment to bettering the lives of others.

At the Hockeywood ceremony, honorees shared heartfelt experiences, connecting through their mutual aim of improving their neighborhoods. Kendal Troutman, a Hockeywood inductee and founder of Thru Guidance Ministries, beautifully articulated the evening's sentiment, saying, "Induction into the Hockeywood Wall of Fame isn't about hockey; it's about resilience, purpose, and staying rooted in the belief that one person can spark change. To be in the company of others equally dedicated to their communities was both humbling and energizing. Our paths may vary, but our purpose is shared."

The selection process for these honored heroes involved nominations from Kings fans, who submitted names through the Hockeywood website. Each inductee received two tickets to a Kings game, a personalized jersey, and an engraved memento to commemorate their achievements.

The Hockeywood Wall of Fame, located at the Toyota Performance Center, serves as a multimedia showcase of the inductees’ remarkable contributions. Visitors are encouraged to learn about these inspiring figures and can even nominate their local heroes via the LA Kings’ website at LAKings.com/Hockeywood.

Erik Thompson reiterated the ongoing commitment to expand this initiative, stating, "We will continue to add new inductees throughout the year, even in the offseason. I encourage everyone to nominate their heroes to honor those who make LA great."

As a wrap-up of the event, it was clear that the stories shared by the honorees did more than celebrate their individual accomplishments. They underscored the collective spirit that inhabits Los Angeles, illustrating that extraordinary impact often comes from ordinary people.
