In a significant move, the Global War on Terrorism Memorial Foundation (GWOTMF) has welcomed Jon Hammes, the founder of Hammes Company, to its esteemed Board of Directors. Announced on April 7, 2025, this appointment underscores the Foundation's commitment to honoring the sacrifices of veterans.
Michael "Rod" Rodríguez, President and CEO of GWOTMF, expressed his enthusiasm for Hammes’ addition, highlighting both his military background as an Army veteran and his extensive experience in the business world. Jon Hammes has a storied career as the founder of Hammes Company, a recognized national real estate consulting, development, and investment firm founded in 1991. Prior to establishing his company, Hammes served as a Managing Partner at Trammell Crow Company, solidifying his reputation in real estate management and development.
His leadership roles extend beyond the business sphere. Hammes currently serves as a trustee and former chair of the Medical College of Wisconsin. He has also held significant positions such as a director at the George W. Bush Presidential Institute, a former trustee and chair of the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, an emeriti trustee for Marquette University, and a past director of the University of Wisconsin Foundation. Additionally, he has contributed to educational initiatives as a past chair and director of Teach for America.
The GWOTMF was established in 2015 and is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed by veterans, military spouses, and committed citizens. Their mission centers on creating a national memorial dedicated to honoring individuals who served in global counterterrorism operations since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The Memorial is designed to be an inclusive space for honoring not just uniformed personnel, but also non-uniformed individuals and their families who have made sacrifices in the line of duty.
