Pal System Saitama Honored as an SDGs Partner in Wakoshi
On January 27, 2023, the Cooperative Pal System Saitama, led by Chairperson Yoshiko Nishiuchi, participated in a ceremony at Wakoshi City Hall to receive the SDGs Partner certification. This acknowledgment came as a result of the organization’s contributions towards the reduction of food waste and support for those in need through food donations and community watch initiatives. Chairperson Nishiuchi was presented with the award by Mayor Takahiro Raitaka.
The Road to Becoming an SDGs Partner
The SDGs Partner program in Wakoshi is an initiative designed to recognize organizations that work alongside the city to address regional challenges and promote awareness regarding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Established in May 2025, Pal System Saitama proudly became the first entity to be certified as an SDGs Partner in the same month. By November that year, a total of nine organizations were certified, culminating in the award ceremony.
During the event, Mayor Raitaka expressed, "Achieving the SDGs cannot be accomplished solely by government efforts. We look forward to fruitful partnerships with enterprises to promote these goals together." In response, Nishiuchi emphasized, "Leveraging our delivery infrastructure, we aim to continue engaging in community cooperation and collaboration, essential for fulfilling our role as a cooperative."
Commitment to Local Support and Monitoring
Since its registration as an SDGs Partner in July 2022, Pal System Saitama has consistently worked to foster community sustainability. They coordinate with local organizations to distribute surplus produce and collected food items to those who require assistance. Additionally, they have established a fund to provide financial support to citizen groups addressing various community issues.
Beyond food donations, the cooperative involves its members in fundraising campaigns for international peace donations, showcasing its commitment to confronting various social challenges in collaboration with users.
Pal System has established monitoring agreements with 62 municipalities in the area. Their delivery drivers are trained to detect abnormalities during delivery and report accidents, ensuring a robust system of collaboration between the distribution center and local governments. Furthermore, for issues related to caregiving and parenting, they have developed a registration system that offers household assistance and companionship services.
All initiatives initiated by Pal System Saitama stem from the voices and needs of its users. The cooperative remains dedicated to contributing to sustainable community development in partnership with its members.
