Celebrate Mount Fuji Day in Shizuoka City!



On February 23rd, Shizuoka City invites everyone to join in the celebrations for Mount Fuji Day. Known as ‘ふじのくに静岡,’ or ‘Fuji’s Country Shizuoka,’ the city showcases spectacular views of Mount Fuji from various scenic spots, including the UNESCO World Heritage site, Miho-no-Matsubara. This year’s festivities promise to highlight not only the breathtaking landscapes but also historical connections to Tokugawa Ieyasu, Japan’s first shogun.

Event Highlights


Miho-no-Matsubara Cultural Center: Miho Shirube


One of the focal points for the Mount Fuji Day celebrations is the Miho-no-Matsubara Cultural Center. Here are some of the entertaining attractions lined up:

1. Mount Fuji Day Commemorative Quiz Rally:
Participants can take part in an exciting quiz relating to Mount Fuji while exploring the exhibits at Miho Shirube. Those who participate will receive delightful Mount Fuji-themed merchandise.
- When: February 23, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- Where: 1st Floor, Miho Shirube, Limited to the first 50 participants.

2. Pine Cone Hanging Decorations Making:
Engage in a creative workshop where you can create hanging decorations using pine cones from Miho-no-Matsubara, felt representations of Mount Fuji, and other accessories corresponding to the next year’s zodiac, the horse.
- When: February 23, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
- Where: 2nd Floor Conference Room, Participation is free, and no registration is required.

3. Gift for Visitors:
The first 300 visitors to the Miho Shirube will receive a handcrafted origami Mount Fuji made by local volunteers.

- Where: Entrance Hall, Miho Shirube

Shizuoka City History Museum:


The History Museum will also host its own activities in celebration of Mount Fuji Day:
  • - Experience and Craft – Pop-up Mount Fuji Cards:
A fun, hands-on experience creating pop-up cards featuring Mount Fuji, suitable for people of all ages.
- When: February 21, 2026, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM
- Where: 1st Floor Learning Support & Community Activities Space
Participation is free and does not require prior registration.

Exploring 'Power Spots': Kuonji Temple and Shizuoka Sengen Shrine


Beyond the festivities, visitors can also explore significant historical and spiritual locations associated with Tokugawa Ieyasu:
  • - Kunozan Toshogu Shrine: A national treasure linked to Ieyasu, this site is famous for its breathtaking view of the surrounding landscapes.
  • - Shizuoka Sengen Shrine: Another historically rich temple that attracts those who seek fortune and blessings.

Journey through Delicious Local Sake


As part of the celebrations, visit Shizuoka's renowned sake breweries, often regarded as ‘bringing fortune’ due to their historical significance in local rituals. The local sake, brewed with pure water and traditional craftsmanship, promises a delightful experience for all visitors.
