Agassi Sports Entertainment Welcomes George Mackin as Strategic Consultant for Future Growth
Agassi Sports Entertainment Welcomes George Mackin as Strategic Consultant
Agassi Sports Entertainment Corp., publicly traded under OTC PINK: AASP, is setting the stage for significant advancements in the realm of racquet sports by announcing the appointment of George Mackin as a strategic consultant. Known for his extensive career in sports media and business, Mackin joins the company as it aims to elevate its operations and projects across this dynamic industry.
A Proven Leader in Sports Media
Mackin comes equipped with decades of rich experience that spans the breadth of the global tennis landscape. His previous ventures have consistently generated considerable value, particularly through media representation, tournament ownership, and strategic investments that resonate with the evolving racquet sports ecosystem.
In 1998, George Mackin made headlines by evolving one of the world’s largest media representation firms, which he subsequently sold. He continued to assert his influence by joining the Tennis Media Company as managing partner in 2000. During his tenure there, he appointed tennis icon Chrissie Evert as publisher and managed to attract strategic investors from the fields of tennis, media, and technology. Under his visionary leadership, the Tennis Media Company flourished and eventually caught the attention of Sinclair Broadcast Group, leading to its acquisition in 2017.
Revitalizing Major Tennis Events
Notably, Mackin played a pivotal role in the successful turnaround of the Indian Wells Masters Series, now known as BNP Paribas Open, by leading an investor group that acquired IMG's stake in the event back in 2004. At that time, the tournament was at risk of being relocated. Armed with his strategic vision, he managed to stabilize and recapitalize the event, leveraging Tennis Media's assets to enhance revenues derived from ticket sales, sponsorships, retail, and food services. When the tournament transitioned into new ownership under Larry Ellison in 2009, it was celebrated as a case study in effective event management by the University of Oregon’s graduate program in sports marketing.
Expanding into Technology and Analytics
In 2015, Mackin expanded his portfolio further by leading an investment group in PlaySight Interactive, a firm that specializes in sports video and analytics technology. His leadership was instrumental during his time as Chairman from 2018 to 2020, leading the way alongside prominent institutional backers like Verizon Ventures and SoftBank Ventures Asia.
Strategic Role at Agassi Sports Entertainment
At Agassi Sports Entertainment, Mackin is expected to play a crucial role in advising the company on media strategies, brand growth, event scaling, athlete collaborations, and technological advancements tailored to meet the demands of modern racquet sports fans. The company’s vision aligns closely with Mackin's extensive expertise, and both parties are optimistic about future trajectories in media and brand development.
Mackin expressed enthusiasm regarding his new role, stating, “I look forward to working with the Agassi Sports Entertainment team to boost the Company's platforms, relevance, and long-term positioning in racquet sports. Having dedicated much of my career to cultivating media, event, and technology ventures in tennis, contributing to what I believe has the potential to evolve into an iconic brand is incredibly appealing.”
Ronald Boreta, CEO of Agassi Sports Entertainment, remarked on the significance of Mackin’s arrival: “George stands out as one of the most capable operators in the racquet sport scene. His proven track record in developing and offloading leading media operations, coupled with his experience in running top-tier tournaments, aligns perfectly with our growth strategy. We are thrilled to have him on board.”
