Won Yong Hwang to Lead ZKW Group as New CEO Starting 2025

Won Yong Hwang Takes the Helm at ZKW Group

The ZKW Group, a notable player in the automotive lighting and electronics sector, has announced that Won Yong Hwang will assume the role of CEO on January 1, 2025. Hwang, 54, is well-equipped for this important position, having served as the COO at LG Electronics' Vehicle Solution Company, which is also part of the ZKW family.

A Leader with Substantial Experience

Hwang's impressive track record spans over 15 years in the automotive industry, during which he has held numerous leadership roles at LG Electronics. His career at LG began in 1996, and over the years, he has acquired extensive knowledge and expertise that will be invaluable for ZKW's future. Before becoming COO, Hwang was the Vice President of Infotainment at LG Electronics, and his experience also includes management roles in the company's Car Infotainment RD Lab and its Business Strategy Group. These insights will help him navigate ZKW through the challenges present in today’s automotive landscape.

Transitioning Leadership

Hwang is set to succeed Dr. Wilhelm Steger, who has led ZKW for almost three years. Steger's leadership was particularly significant as he spearheaded essential restructuring efforts during challenging times in the industry. His decision to leave stems from a desire to pursue new professional ventures, although he will remain connected to ZKW as a member of its Supervisory Board.

Hwang expressed his goals for ZKW in a recent statement: "Dr. Steger played a pivotal role in initiating the necessary market-related restructuring of the ZKW Group during challenging times within the automotive industry. Moving forward, my goal and priority will be to accelerate the expansion of synergies with the LG Electronics headquarters and to strengthen ZKW's competitiveness."

ZKW Group’s Vision and Products

ZKW Group specializes in developing innovative premium lighting systems and electronics. Since becoming a subsidiary of LG Electronics in 2018, the company has been a vital player in crafting high-quality automotive products. The company operates under the guiding motto, "Bright Minds, Bright Lights," highlighting their commitment to excellence.

With nine production and development sites globally, ZKW employs around 10,000 staff members and generated around 1.54 billion euros in total sales in 2023. Their wide array of products includes headlights, fog lights, indicators, and sophisticated electronic modules—supporting the designs and technologies of numerous renowned car manufacturers including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, and many others.

Looking Forward

As the automotive industry evolves, ZKW Group is positioned to maintain its reputation for premium products and innovative solutions. With Won Yong Hwang stepping into the CEO role, the company plans to focus on high-tech product development and enhancing manufacturing quality.

In summary, as ZKW enters a new chapter under Hwang’s leadership, the group aims to pioneer advancements in automotive lighting and electronics, leveraging its longstanding relationship with LG Electronics to enhance synergies and competitiveness in a rapidly changing market.
