Enjoy Delicious Handmade Crepes with Seasonal Fruits in Yamanashi
On July 31, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, the Palsystem Yamanashi Nagano Cooperative will host an engaging cooking event at the Fuefukigawa Fruit Park in Yamanashi City. Participants will have the opportunity to prepare crepes made from rice flour, topped with an abundance of in-season fruits such as peaches, grapes, and blueberries. This event not only focuses on creating delightful desserts but also emphasizes the importance of local produce and community education.
Understanding Seasonal Ingredients
The ingredients used for the crepes will be sourced from farms with which Palsystem has direct partnerships within Yamanashi Prefecture. Participants will also enjoy Palsystem’s uniquely made ice cream, which emphasizes the natural flavors of the ingredients. With a commitment to international direct-sourcing partnerships, Palsystem aims to minimize the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, showcasing produce like bananas grown sustainably. Participants will thus have the chance to create desserts using high-quality ingredients that tell a story of responsible agriculture.
Before the cooking begins, a member of the Palsystem Life Assistant (PLA) group will share insights about the production backgrounds of the ingredients. The PLA has completed a specialized course focused on product creation and its connection to food and farming initiatives, allowing them to educate other members about the significance of sustainable agricultural practices. By participating in these interactive cooking classes and workshops, members can appreciate the relevance of their daily food choices.
Promoting Rice Consumption
Participants will use sticky rice flour to create the crepe batter, highlighting the enjoyable texture it provides. This choice is not just for taste; it's part of a broader initiative to promote rice consumption in Japan, supporting domestic rice farmers amid rising commodity prices. The declining consumption of rice has become a pressing issue, and Palsystem advocates for maintaining a consistent rice-eating habit to ensure the sustainability of local rice production.
During the event, as participants craft their crepes and share experiences, PLA members will encourage them to continue including rice in their diet, emphasizing that every individual’s choice makes a difference in the future of agricultural production.
