The 41st Annual National Conference of Corporate Associations Held in Kochi
On October 16, 2023, the “Kochi Convention Center” in Kochi Prefecture hosted the 41st Annual National Conference of the
Japan Corporate Associations Federation (Zenho-ren), a federation representing approximately 700,000 member companies, primarily comprising small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Under the leadership of Chairman
Yasushi Saito, an advisor at IHI Corporation, the event welcomed notable guests, including
Kazuhiko Ejima, the head of the National Tax Agency, and
Yuya Nishimori, the Deputy Governor of Kochi Prefecture.
This annual conference serves as a platform to present recommendations on tax system reforms while bringing together corporate representatives from across the nation. The goal is to foster deeper connections and collaborations among the corporate associations and to enhance mutual understanding through interaction and discussion.
Approximately
1,600 business executives gathered for the occasion, where discussions included reports on the tax reform proposals for fiscal year 2026 and presentations on tax education initiatives and health management efforts from the Youth Division. A key highlight of the conference was the declaration regarding the return to a “world with interest,” emphasizing the challenges posed by increased interest payments on government bonds that could strain public finances. The declaration pointed out the need for a comprehensive reform of expenditures and revenues, declaring fiscal soundness as a national priority. Moreover, it highlighted the importance of revitalizing SMEs, which are the foundation of the Japanese economy, advocating for tax measures that support SME revitalization and the expansion of the business succession tax system.
