Introducing TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO
The recently inaugurated TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO has made headlines by securing the
LEED GOLD® certification, a landmark achievement as it becomes the first arena in Japan to receive this prestigious international recognition related to environmental sustainability. Opened on October 3, this multipurpose arena is operated by the
Toyota Alvark Tokyo and is set to redefine the landscape of sports and entertainment in the region.
What is LEED Certification?
LEED, which stands for
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) that evaluates the environmental performance of buildings. This certification is one of the most widely recognized standards for sustainable buildings worldwide. TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO was awarded its certification under the
LEED-BD+C (Building Design and Construction) v4 category, underlining its commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability.
Key Features and Recognition
In addition to the LEED GOLD®, TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO has also achieved
ZEB Ready certification, noted for its exceptional energy performance which translates to a
BEI value of 0.45. The arena boasts multiple features that contributed to its high rating:
1.
Optimized Energy Performance: The facility includes high-efficiency systems that lower energy costs by 32.3% compared to established benchmarks (ASHRAE 90.1-2010 Appendix G).
2.
Renewable Energy Generation: It features one of Japan's largest rooftop solar power installations, capable of producing
300kW, projected to cover over 5.0% of annual energy needs by generating approximately 310 MWh.
3.
Water Conservation: Innovative features like rainwater and reclaimed water usage systems have led to a reduction of indoor water use by an impressive
77.6% compared to standard LEED guidelines.
4.
Open Space and Local Biodiversity: Ensuring community interaction, 44.0% of the site has been designated as open space, with strategic rainwater management to promote local plant life.
