March of Dimes Appoints Dr. Michael Warren as Chief Medical and Health Officer
March of Dimes, a leading nonprofit organization committed to improving the health of mothers and babies, has appointed Dr. Michael Warren, MD, MPH, FAAP as its new Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO). The announcement was made on June 10, 2025, highlighting Dr. Warren's extensive experience and dedication to advancing maternal and child health in the United States.
Dr. Warren, a nationally recognized pediatrician and public health leader, will officially step into his new role on June 16, 2025. His impressive background includes over 15 years of leadership in both state and federal health initiatives, where he has consistently worked towards reducing maternal and infant mortality rates and improving healthcare access for underserved communities.
Cindy Rahman, the president and CEO of March of Dimes, expressed her enthusiasm about Dr. Warren joining the organization. In his most recent position as Associate Administrator of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau at the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Dr. Warren played a key role in overseeing critical programs that contributed to a reduction in infant mortality rates. Moreover, he expanded mental health resources for mothers by establishing the National Maternal Mental Health Hotline and introduced innovative care models in over 40 states, such as mobile prenatal units and simulation training.
Prior to his role at HRSA, Dr. Warren was a leader at the Tennessee Department of Health, where his initiatives significantly improved maternal and infant health outcomes in underserved communities. Dr. Warren stated, "It is an honor to join March of Dimes and contribute to the vital mission of improving outcomes for mothers and babies. Throughout my career, I've witnessed the challenges families face in accessing equitable care. I look forward to leveraging the incredible legacy of this organization as we advance new strategies that close disparities and promote long-term health for every family."
As the CMHO, Dr. Warren will lead the team shaping and delivering the organization’s mission strategy through programs, education, innovation, and advocacy. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, he will drive efforts to expand reach, deepen impact, and accelerate solutions to the maternal and infant health crisis.
Dr. Warren earned his medical degree from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and completed his residency, chief residency, and Master of Public Health at Vanderbilt University. He has served as the president of the board of the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP) and continues to advocate for evidence-based policies that enhance lifelong health outcomes.
