Shohei Ohtani Collaborates with FamilyMart on New Onigiri Release

New Onigiri Release Featuring Shohei Ohtani

FamilyMart will launch its third collaboration on July 21, 2026, featuring a unique onigiri named “Big Onigiri: My Salmon and Bonito Flakes” priced at 323 yen (tax included: 348 yen). This product celebrates the combination of salmon, which Ohtani includes in his daily diet, and bonito flakes, which he fondly remembers from his high school days. The onigiri's rice is crafted to be 1.5 times the weight of a regular hand-held onigiri, allowing consumers to indulge in the flavorful pairing fully.

This release follows the ethos of FamilyMart, headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, as it gears up to celebrate its 45th anniversary in September 2026. The company has formulated a campaign around the motto “The Most Challenge,” focusing on delivering quality and community love through its products.

A Culinary Journey with Ohtani

The Ingredients that Comprise Ohtani's Onigiri

The onigiri combines two distinct flavors—rich salmon, which is characterized by its umami taste drawn from Hokkaido salmon broth and tamari soy sauce, and the traditional flavor of bonito flakes. The latter has been a personal favorite for Ohtani since his youth, when he often enjoyed it as a topping in his meals. This blend articulates Ohtani’s trajectory from his roots to his present, marrying both nostalgia and nourishment in one bite.

Community Contributions Through the Smile Onigiri Project

Furthermore, a portion of the sales from this Ohtani-packaged onigiri will support the “Smile Onigiri Project,” a community initiative aimed at promoting healthy growth in children. This third installment of the project also includes a special parent-child sports measurement event, which will occur on October 12, 2026, coinciding with Sports Day in Japan.

Parent-Child Sports Measurement Event

This unique event will offer children a chance to explore their athletic potential through a series of digital fitness tests and lessons on running techniques led by special guest, Shuhei Tada, a prominent sprinter and champion.
  • - Event Date: October 12, 2026
  • - Location: J-SOCIETY FOOTBALL PARK, Tama City
  • - Participants: 30 families (60 individuals)
  • - Cost: Free

The scheduled tests include vertical jumps, rebound jumps, a 20m sprint, growth measurements, and speed response assessments. Each child will receive a personalized results sheet to visualize their strengths and areas for growth. Following the tests, participants will enjoy tasting the onigiri, reflecting on their measurements while savoring the food.

Application Details

Interested families can apply from July 21 to August 24, 2026, by visiting the FamilyMart website for more details on the event. It’s important to note that while Ohtani is the ambassador for the event, he will not physically attend the event.

Looking Ahead

FamilyMart's ambitious outreach extends beyond merely offering quality food; they aim to forge connections with communities, inspired by the ongoing impact of their charity projects. This initiative speaks not only to consumer cravings but also channels resources into fostering youth development.

As they move closer to their 45th anniversary, FamilyMart continues to innovate while holding true to its values. With the upcoming variety of products and community-driven activities, the company remains a cherished establishment in the lives of many.
