OMRON Healthcare Highlights Risks of Undiagnosed Heart Failure in Women at ESC Congress 2025
OMRON Healthcare Co., Ltd., renowned for being the most recommended brand of blood pressure monitors by healthcare professionals globally, is set to participate in the prestigious ESC Congress 2025. This event, hosted by the European Society of Cardiology, will take place from August 29 to September 1 in Madrid, Spain. During the event, OMRON aims to engage visitors in crucial discussions surrounding women's heart health and the often overlooked issue of undiagnosed heart failure.
The annual ESC Congress serves as a vital gathering for professionals across the cardiology spectrum, including physicians, health tech providers, and researchers, all convening to explore the latest findings and advancements in cardiovascular health. OMRON Healthcare will continue its long-standing tradition of exhibiting and sponsoring this important congress, having previously organized a successful symposium on atrial fibrillation and hypertension at the 2024 event in London.
This year, OMRON Healthcare will host a satellite symposium titled "Unveiling the Hidden Threat: Recognising Undiagnosed Heart Failure in Women," scheduled for August 29 at 3:15 PM in Conference Room Sofia at IFEMA. Esteemed experts will present, including Alta Schutte from the George Institute for Global Health in Australia, Eva Gerdts from the University of Bergen in Norway, and Renate B. Schnabel from Hamburg-Eppendorf University Medical Center in Germany.
Cardiovascular diseases stand as the leading cause of death among women worldwide; however, many cases remain undiagnosed due to persistent biases in research, clinical guidelines, and symptom recognition. A recent study conducted by OMRON Healthcare in Japan revealed that while 50% of surveyed women noticed early warning signs such as palpitations and shortness of breath, over half did not seek medical attention, mistakenly attributing their symptoms to menopause.
Furthermore, the study showed that while approximately half of the participants were aware of atrial fibrillation (AFib)—a common heart rhythm disorder associated with symptoms like palpitations and fatigue—most lacked awareness regarding the potential severity of the condition and the importance of early detection and treatment for long-term health outcomes.
OMRON Healthcare believes that regular self-monitoring is essential for early diagnosis. The company utilizes blood pressure monitors that sync with the OMRON connect app to analyze patterns and facilitate data sharing with physicians. Additionally, OMRON’s proprietary Intellisense AFib technology is employed for screening AFib symptoms. Demonstrating its commitment to these issues, OMRON’s booth at ESC Congress 2025 will provide attendees a first look at a new series of upper-arm blood pressure monitors set to be launched globally. These devices will incorporate an AI-backed algorithm along with features aimed at enhancing the functionality of OMRON's blood pressure monitor portfolio.
"We are excited to participate in the ESC Congress once again this year," stated Karen Benegmos-Sanders, Managing Director at OMRON Healthcare Europe. "By inviting leading experts to our satellite symposium, we aim to address pressing issues in cardiovascular care, and we look forward to providing an exclusive preview of our new upper-arm blood pressure monitor series, which has the potential to transform heart health worldwide by promoting home self-monitoring in conjunction with our proprietary screening technologies."
