Cineverse and Trevor Henderson Join Forces

Cineverse, a prominent player in entertainment technology and film production, has struck an exciting agreement with horror creator Trevor Henderson to adapt the popular podcast 'Mayfair Watchers Society' into a feature film. Known for his chilling creations like Siren Head and Cartoon Cat, Henderson is no stranger to capturing the public's imagination with his unique style of horror.

Since its launch on October 10, 2022, 'Mayfair Watchers Society' has gathered an astonishing three million downloads, solidifying its status as a sensation in the horror podcasting arena. This feature film adaptation comes at a strategic moment as the fourth season of the podcast prepares to debut on the Cineverse Podcast Network, allowing fans to engage with the content across different platforms.

The Rising Demand for Innovative Horror

The collaboration reflects a booming trend in Hollywood, where online content creators are increasingly in demand. Earlier this year, a bidding war culminated in Warner Bros. Pictures securing the rights to bring Henderson’s Siren Head to the big screen, further highlighting the rising interest in his imaginative horrors. Another one of his creations, Cartoon Cat, will be adapted by Sony's TriStar Pictures.

Yolanda Macias, the Chief Motion Pictures Officer at Cineverse, remarked, “This year has marked a significant shift where online creators have established themselves in the horror film industry. Collaborating with Trevor is a thrilling opportunity, not just for us and him, but for all his fans.”

Recognized for their commitment to unique creators, the Cineverse Motion Pictures Group has previously succeeded with 'Terrifier 2' and 'Terrifier 3.' Their dedication to supporting filmmakers with passionate followings includes celebrating cinematic milestones like the 20th anniversary of Guillermo del Toro's 'Pan's Labyrinth.'

Innovating the Horror Narrative

The film adaptation of 'Mayfair Watchers Society' will embrace a found footage narrative style. This anthology format will allow exploration of various terrifying creatures and stories drawn from the podcast, such as The Needle, Creekman, Owls with Teeth, Mr. Bag, Anxious Dogs, Scissors, and The Clatter.

Henderson has expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “The Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting teams have been phenomenal partners on the podcast. I look forward to playing an active role in adapting this project into a feature film. It’s an exciting opportunity to bring my vision to life and connect with fans on a larger scale.”

A Thriving Podcasting Phenomenon

' Mayfair Watchers Society' stands out as an original production from Bloody FM, the horror division of the Cineverse Podcast Network, created by Henderson and Pacific Obadiah. Each episode of the podcast, presented as a series of found audio recordings, revolves around different individuals encountering Henderson's signature horror creatures. The podcast received acclaim from Apple, landing a spot among the most popular podcasts and ranking as the #2 fiction podcast on both Apple and Spotify.

Trevor Henderson is supported by a strong representation team comprised of Verve, Redshift, and Marios Rush. The agreement was negotiated by Macias along with Steven Peros, Cineverse's VP of Creative Development and Filmmaker Relations.

Looking Ahead

Cineverse is dedicated to providing a platform that emphasizes storytelling across all mediums, ensuring that independent filmmakers have opportunities to shine. The creation of 'Mayfair Watchers Society' as a film adaptation is not only a testament to the podcast's success but also an innovative leap forward in the cinematic portrayal of horror narratives. As the film progresses, audiences can expect a fresh and immersive experience that capitalizes on the eerie elements that made the podcast a hit—a collaborative triumph between Cineverse and one of today's most intriguing horror masterminds, Trevor Henderson.
