Delve into the Culinary Landscape at the 4th Luncheon Seminar by Yamasa Chikuwa and Japanese Cuisine Sakuragaoka

Discovering the Culinary Legacy of Yamasa Chikuwa and Japanese Cuisine Sakuragaoka

On October 26, 2025, a unique culinary event is set to take place at the Japanese Cuisine Sakuragaoka, located on the second floor of the Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel in Shibuya, Tokyo. This year marks the fourth collaboration between Yamasa Chikuwa, a time-honored brand established in 1827, and the celebrated restaurant, focusing on the rich history and food culture of Toyohashi and East Mikawa. Under the direction of General Manager Shinichi Yoshioka, this event promises to be both educational and enjoyable.

Participants will be treated to a lecture by Yamasa Chikuwa’s seventh president, Motohide Sato, who will delve into the deep-rooted history of chikuwa (a type of Japanese fish cake) from its origins to modern-day interpretations. Sato will also lead a hands-on demonstration of the traditional method of creating chikuwa, allowing attendees to engage in the delightful task of grilling their handmade creations.

The East Mikawa region, where Yamasa Chikuwa is headquartered, is known for its fertile lands blessed with favorable sunlight and rivers, making it a treasure trove of agricultural products. This event will also showcase locally sourced ingredients cultivated in East Mikawa, specifically from Tahara city and the Aichi Minami Agricultural Cooperative. The hotel’s esteemed Executive Chef, Nobuhiko Fukuda, will oversee a special lunch menu meticulously designed to highlight these fresh ingredients. Additionally, guests can pair their meals with a selection of fine local sake, making for an unforgettable autumn culinary journey. For non-alcoholic options, a variety of non-alcoholic drinks will be available.

The fourth luncheon seminar on the history and food culture of Toyohashi and East Mikawa invites food lovers to explore the integration of culture through cuisine. The event begins at 12:00 PM for registration, followed by a seated lunch starting at 12:30 PM. The cost for this immersive experience is 8,000 yen per person, inclusive of service charges and taxes, with pre-reservations required.

The menu offers not only the chikuwa grilling experience but also a carefully curated kaiseki (traditional multi-course) meal, showcasing the best of seasonal ingredients and the art of Japanese cooking. The seminar is supported by collaboration with local businesses, including the Tahara city government and the Aichi Minami Agricultural Cooperative, reinforcing the strong ties between gastronomy and regional heritage.
