Bechtel Selected to Lead New Escape Solar Project
Bechtel, a recognized leader in construction and project management, is making significant strides in renewable energy by spearheading the Escape Solar Project in Lincoln County, Nevada. This major utility-scale solar initiative has been commissioned by Estuary Power, focusing on the design and construction of a state-of-the-art 226 megawatt (MW) direct current photovoltaic (PV) solar facility. This bold initiative aims to harness the sun's power and provide sustainable energy to some of the region's largest power consumers.
Project Overview
The Escape Solar project encompasses an expansive area of approximately 900 acres, equipped with around 389,000 photovoltaic solar panels. These panels will utilize cutting-edge bifacial technology, allowing sunlight to be absorbed from both sides. This innovative approach maximizes energy production while contributing to a decrease in reliance on fossil fuels and lowering greenhouse gas emissions in line with global sustainability goals.
Kelley Brown, Operations Manager at Bechtel’s Renewables Clean Power division, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "Bechtel is delighted to be joining a fantastic team to deliver clean power to Estuary's customers in southern Nevada. Our commitment to our relationships with Estuary and Ullico, developed over two decades, drives us to bring our best talent and advanced digital processes to achieve effective results. We are excited to construct a facility that will provide renewable energy for many years and strengthen Nevada's renewable energy landscape."
Economic and Environmental Impact
The solar energy produced by this facility will significantly benefit four major power customers, including renowned establishments like MGM Resorts International, Caesars Entertainment, Overton Power District, and Wynn Las Vegas. This array of customers represents a substantial segment of Nevada's economy and illustrates the project’s capacity to supply clean energy to critical industries. The completion of this project is anticipated in the third quarter of 2025, further underscoring Bechtel's commitment to delivering timely and successful outcomes in renewable energy ventures.
Jill Daniel, founder and CEO of Estuary Power, emphasized the importance of this partnership, "Estuary is thrilled to partner with Bechtel on the Escape Solar project. We chose them due to our long-standing relationship and their exceptional record of managing complex projects worldwide. We are confident that Bechtel will deliver on our shared vision for this innovative facility."
A Commitment to Clean Energy
Bechtel’s involvement in the solar sector is a reflection of its broader strategy to enhance infrastructure across the United States, aiming to produce enough renewable energy to power over half a million homes annually from its ten solar facilities. This project highlights the accelerating trend towards clean energy and sustainable practices in the construction industry.
Estuary Power, being predominantly women-owned and supported by Ullico Infrastructure Fund, embodies a commitment to infrastructure that benefits the community and aligns with development goals in the U.S.
