Call for Technology Information from Construction Startups
On January 13, 2023, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan announced an initiative to create a technology catalog focused on construction-related startups. This proactive step aims to compile and present valuable technological information related to products and services offered by these firms.
As the number of startups in Japan continues to rise each year, simply increasing this number isn't enough. There is an urgent need to enhance their growth after establishment. To address this, the MLIT is committed to supporting the utilization of technologies developed by construction startups by formulating a technology catalog that can be broadly leveraged throughout the construction industry.
The ministry has previously gathered technological data from several dozen domestic startups. However, to enrich the catalog's content, a public call for technology information will now be made. This allows for a wider array of input that can be of use not just nationally but across various construction sectors, thereby promoting innovation and collaboration in the industry.
Submission Period
The submission period for technology information is open from January 13, 2023, to February 6, 2023, at 5 PM.
Details on Submission
For further specifics on how to participate and the types of information being requested, interested parties are encouraged to refer to the MLIT website at the following URL:
MLIT Technology Submission Page. This page outlines submission guidelines and expectations thoroughly.
Prior Collection Information
Companies that previously assisted with the pre-collection of data do not need to resubmit their information. This applies specifically to businesses that were recipients of significant awards, selected participants of the MLIT’s SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) program, and those already listed in private startup databases, provided they were established on or after April 1, 2011.
Why This Matters
The development of construction technologies plays an essential role in Japan's economic growth and efficiency in infrastructure development. By actively engaging with startups, MLIT fosters an ecosystem where creativity and technological innovation can flourish. The catalog will serve as a vital tool for industry players to access cutting-edge solutions and drive advancements in construction methodologies.
Engaging startups not only empowers these companies but also enhances the overall competitiveness of Japan's construction sector. As startups innovate, they can address contemporary challenges in construction, including automation, sustainability, and efficiency, thus paving the way for a more resilient industry.
As the deadline approaches, industry players are urged to consider participating in this initiative. It is an opportunity not only for startups to gain visibility but also for the broader construction community to tap into new technologies for improved project outcomes.
