Exploring AKANE's Upcoming Photo Exhibition: 'Supersupercalifragilisticexpialidodocious'
Photographer AKANE, representing Amana, will unveil her exciting photo exhibition titled 'Supersupercalifragilisticexpialidodocious' at the MIDORI-so Nakameguro Gallery in Tokyo from February 13 to February 21, 2026. This exhibition promises to be a journey into the realm where emotions stir, yet words remain elusive. It invites visitors to engage with images that provoke thought and inspire joy through the act of seeing.
An Insight into the Exhibition
The exhibition, aptly named 'Supersupercalifragilisticexpialidodocious,' serves as a portal through which audiences can explore the thrill of viewing art, even when not all can be articulated. AKANE skillfully takes visitors beyond the confines of clear explanation, delving into realms where colors, textures, and scales gently drift from reality. The unique interplay creates a disconnect, encouraging viewers to ponder, 'What is this? Why can't I look away?' Thought often yields to visceral reaction, and in this space, understanding is not the end goal. Instead, viewers are beckoned to suspend their preconceived notions and connect with their feelings, standing in front of the works with an open heart. As they do, what might initially seem 'invisible' transforms, revealing itself as something that perhaps can be comprehended upon closer inspection. This exhibition allows attendees to revel in the allure of the unknown while savoring the lingering mystery.
Series Breakdown
1. 'toooooo much!'
This series features a monumental hamburger, reaching for the stars, thereby exposing the aesthetic of excess in advertising. Through exaggeration in color, shape, and texture, the excessive presentation ultimately morphs into a surreal realism. This composition consists of three notable pieces, including cheese stretched high from a pizza and pasta wrapped chaotically around a fork. While exaggeration amplifies the notion of 'deliciousness,' it also provokes a sense of unnerving humor. The exclamation, 'That’s bogus! You’re overdoing it!' challenges the boundary between pleasure and discomfort typically expressed in advertising, encouraging viewers to question their own perceptions.
2. 'sweet mineral'
In this dazzling piece, ruby-like candies spill from a pomegranate, evoking a powerful sweetness. The dichotomy confronting viewers here is between natural and artificial sweeteners—both having their merits and drawbacks in our lives. Whether it’s the comforting essence of natural sweetness or the enticing promise of convenience from artificial flavors, both are woven into our daily existence inescapably. This series, comprising four works, juxtaposes the natural sweetness found in pomegranates and oranges against the artificial gourmand delights such as candies and chocolates, allowing both to coexist and highlight the complexity of choices in a modern context, confronting the difficulties of coexisting with both these tastes.
In total, the exhibition encompasses seven series, each crafted to enrich understanding through visual contrast and thematic exploration.
